Seems like all the decently weighted "knobs" are some sort of unfinished bare metal. Looking for something in the 300-700g range. Anyone modify an oem knob with lead?

thanks...

There is an OEM 2g knob thats weighted...its my all time fav-and its like $20.

I was told I had a 2g knob now, although it looks plastic to me. Suppose I could just add weight to it since I can’t see spending 30-100$ on a knob! I think some small lead fishing weights pounded out flat or pressed in a vise would get the weight up quite a bit. (prob not 300g though) The knob threads are pretty deep, I figure I could lose about half that without causing any major issues. May order an extra so I don’t trash mine, thanks for the input!

There are something like 5 or 6 different 2g knobs. Most aren't weighted, one of them is. There is a thread on here with the OEM part # if you do some searching. MachV is expensive, but that price seems insane (unless the price skyrocked after the quake in Japan).

I swapped my stocker for the OEM weighted one, I actually bought two at the time to have a spare, they cost me $14ea. Maybe I should be selling that spare LOL

Well I bought mine here: OEM Heavy Leather Shift Knob
But looking at the price now, it's hardly worth it at all. I got if for like $20 as stated above. No idea why the price skyrocketed.

Same one I bought about a year ago. I think it was 35 bucks then. WTF If I had any idea they would go up like that I'da bought the whole lot of em.

Here's one for around fifty shipped! MitsubishiParts.net - Your #1 Source for OEM Parts and Accessories

Here's the thread Daren is referring to. I know I posted the part number for the OEM heavy leather shift knob in there somewhere.

The price did skyrocket for some reason. I just went and checked the price and it was $105 OMG No idea what happened, as the last time I checked they were under $15.

2g Probe GT Leather knob.. Weighted, Beefy, and can be had for very cheap at the JY. The dealer may have them as well. I have these in all my Talons. By FAR my favorite shift knob.:thumb:

Here they are for $40 on Ebay. They also show it un wrapped which is kinda cool. If thats lead, I don't think a few fishing weights is gonna cut it!

Thanks for the tip on the probe knob! Not finding any on the ebay though...Think you could weigh it? I know we all have our digital gram scale handy... ;)

They are very tough to come by on eBay, its either the dealer or the junkyard. I have one spare, but it's going in my other car:) I actually don't have a scale, but i'll figure out some way to weigh it. Maybe the post office can help me.

I wouldn't pay 40$ for an OEM shift knob let alone 100$+, that's just nuts. You can buy aftermarket, custom fit ones for that price, new! Maybe it's just me, but putting a shift knob the same price as a used turbo or a new bumper shouldn't that click up there as being insane?

I agree, although find me a nice leather shift knob thats weighted for less? I can't seem to do it... I'd pay $25 or so but $47(gotta include shipping) is still pretty steep IMO. I'd have to say OEM quality is generally much better than "aftermarket"... esp. if we are talking cheap overseas products.

Im using the 2g oem weighted lether shift knob it's awesome, and only cost 20$.
I bought it off eBay a while back I thought it's was going be a eBay fake but came straight from Mitsubishi.

May be a stupid question but why do we want weighed knobs? Is it to tear down wieght on the car or help with shifting?

The extra weight helps with shifting effort & makes the shift feel smoother.

I would defently pay $40-50 for an OEM weighted one, its defently an improvement over the stocker & I like to keep the stock look. Most aftermarket are to "ricey" for me, OEM FTW

Yeah, most may not look nice (rice has nothing to do with style/taste, fyi) but don't pick those. The main thing is to pick one that is threaded for us specifically (none of that bolt attachment bs) and go for the style you want.

As an example, either way, you'll never see me buy one of these OEM ones for 100$+, places custom form them to your specs for that much, leather, weighed and looks. I call those types of price raises scare tactics as it makes everyone want to buy some in case they might not be able to get one in the future. But I guess what ever the demand is reason enough for the supply to raise up prices...

I've seen this weighted knob but I dont really like the grip it gives. Anyone like the all glass knob with a light in it? I had one of those for a little while till the light burnt out so i want back to the light leather 2g stocker.
