hello,
This is my first time using this site and I have read many related threads about the TCU problem that I am experiencing. I am interested in this 1995 Eclipse GS with a TCU problem. The owner bought a second car and needs to sell this 1995 Eclipse GS due to debts and wanting to lighten his load (no pun intended
).
Anyways, he told me that when he bought the car from its first owner the car started to go out because the TCU is broke, but the car is still drive able as he drove the car the day before I texted him. Even tho the inside has stained seats, a bad paint which I do like, and the window has a small crack that's not in the eyeline, a smack crack in the bumper but the bumper seems to be intact.
The thing that got me doubting is the TCU. I posted questions on Yahoo Answers about if I can drive the car home without the broken TCU in the car. I already contacted a Chrysler dealership near me and said a new TCU will cost $220.
My question seems to be, could I drive the car home and have a local mechanic replace the bad TCU with the new one or could I replace the bad TCU in my own driveway because I read on a post from this site that it's simple to take out, however, I would need to have the new TCU program.
Also, he took a picture of the TCU and it's under the hood of the car and not behind the stereo from what I read elsewhere?
