First off, let me say hello. I am new here and looking to buy a 2G DSM. I found one at a dealership in my area and wanted some peoples opinions on what i should ask about/ look for when i go to test drive the car. since it is a dealership, they should have done the 60k mi maintence right?

It is a 95 Talon TSi, FWD with 54k original miles, one owner car. they were asking 6995, but he said they could do 6700 since im paying cash. any help would be appreciated, thanks!

John

i'll let the more experienced people handle what to look for in the car; however, if they're asking 6995 and you're paying cash, i wouldn't pay more than 6500 for sure and you could probably get it for 6300. knocking off 10% is pretty common, especially at dealer prices.

Welcome, Maintenance on this car should have been done, but may not have. Ask them to see a copy of the safety inspection on the vehicle. Test drive it thurougly and look for any possible signs for crankwalk, it is a 95 after all. Find out as much as you can through the dealership by asking lots of questions and id suggest getting a car fax. Good luck

i read that a telltale sign of crankwalk is when turning left and shifting the clutch will "stick" or something like that. It is a auto (unfortunately), are they any real signs for that?

Ill be honest im not too sure of it. If your going to buy it try to strike up a deal saying the only way you will buy it is if they will check crankshaft end play for you. Its easy to do and wont cost the sales department too much. Id suggest doing a search on crankwalk signs for the automatics. Hope that helps a little.

Dealers overprice everything so be sure this is what you want for sure, look for other ones too. That you might be able to get a deal on maybe you'll find that manual you want more.

Yeah, its not that i want one more; but i have always driven a stick, sometimes i think it would be nice to drive an auto, but then again, its not like IM really driving it. im also pushed for time now cause i leave for school a week from friday and i just sold my mustang... oops haha.

check your PM's young buck

Auto's do not crankwalk nearly as much as manuals do, hell an extremely small amount of them do. Check the 60k maintenance, recalls, turbo shaft play, and all of the general shit you would check for on any other car.
