Ok, I had my t25 and it was smoking. Long story short, I just put on an Evo III (true MHI). Got it on, went and drove it. I didn't rag on it, but ran it pretty good to make sure everything was ok. I didn't have any trouble and that was 3 days ago. When driving home today I noticed some smoke (bluish) when under boost above like 5 psi. Is there anything besides turbo seals it could be? All stock, except type rs bov, cheapy fmic, and boost gauge. It's on stock WG pressure which is about 10, 12 at wot. The turbo was used, but fresh rebuild when I got it with 0 miles on it. Please help with any ideas.

The pcv is brand new, I tried it before condemning the t25. Although I have not done a leak down test yet. I did a compression check, not sure how accurate the gauge is, it was 135-142 across and only about 10 pounds different checking it "wet". I'm just thinking surely it's not the turbo?:banghead:

Is the PCV OEM? Did you check shaft play as well? So you know, service limit is 133psi or so.

It's not own pcv valve, Borg Warner (BWD), no shaft play, I will double check again tomorrow just to be safe. And compression....kind of worries me, but I have not verified with another gauge yet. Since I put the new turbo I've only gone like 10 miles. I drive it everyday to work, but that's only 1/2 mile from the house. I just took the long way home today. Any chance it is the turbo and it will "settle" in after I actually go drive it a few miles?

And I thought the valve seals too before I replaced the turbo. It only smokes though under a higher boost and us fine at idle, acceleration, slowing down. Drives fine, pulls good, etc.

Make sure you are doing your test with the engine at operating temps too.

Double check the PCV by blowing into the nipple side. If it lets air pass then it's not working as it should. You can invest in a secondary check valve to put in between the PCV and IM 3/8" Kynar® Standard Check Valves | U.S. Plastic Corp.

Still have balance shafts? Hows your oil level looking?

Your oil pressure sounds like an issue to me :coy: Might want to confirm if you have balance shafts or not.

I am thinking all the oil from the old turbo stuck in the cooler is getting pushed through.you should think about flushing out the cooler before you spend any money.
you don'twant the oil getting into the cylinders under any serious boost it WILL knock and break

I'll check the balance shafts. The intercooler should be pretty clean, I cleaned it not long ago. To the long version on that note. I got a small 16g and and put it on, sucked up a coupler and trashed the compressor wheel after only 2 days. That us when I ordered this turbo. I cleaned the intercooler prior to the S16g install.

How's your oil return? I had the same problem, thought my turbo was blown after later finding out the gasket was pinching off the return line.

If it were bad valve seals,it wouldn't be leaking oil into your intercooler pipes.

Oil from the install maybe? I blew my seals, replaced my turbo with a new one and it took about 100mi for the smoking to stop, first stopped smoking all the time at like 50mi, then only smoked under boost for the last 50 but now no smoke whatsoever :D

your oil pressure must be normal because im pegging over 100 at idle and 20 warmed up without balance shafts. One 14b i have, doesnt smoke at all, but when i pulled the turbo apart to check it out for a 2nd time, i could see that oil caked up on the rear seal and sealed it. i was amazed.

Over 100psi of oil pressure going to a MHI turbo would be fatal. The turbo's cartridge is designed for a low-volume source of no more than 55psi of oil pressure.

Install a restrictor if you're feeding from the filter housing, or just swap to a 1G factory feed line (from the head) and your smoking problem should cure itself.

Failure to correct the problem now could result in increased oil consumption over the life of the turbo as the turbine seal will never properly seat against the housing. Only another rebuild with seal replacement will stop the smoking once the oil has burnt and stuck to the sealing surface of the housing.

Does anybody have a picture of where I would hook up an oil feed line from the head? I've had trouble locating a restrictor, but I can't find any pics of where I would just feed the turbo from the head. Please help
