new to the forums and new to dsms. my turbo (stock) recently started leaking oil so I ordered a brand new one thats a 16g from ko motorsports online. I just installed the turbo, drove it about 30 miles and got into boost in second gear. Online it says the internal wastegate is adjusted to 12 pounds of boost, In second gear it got to about 25 pounds then I let out (don't wanna blow it) I was just wondering if any of you guys might have any ideas on how to get it to boost properly? Thanks in advance!

DO you have a manual boost controller and how did you set the wastegate up? Did you just run a vacuum line to a nipple on the j pipe from the wastegate?

yes that is how the wastegate is set up. and i dont think i have a manual boost controller but i did see this box that goes from the valve cover to the intake i think and it has a knob on it. I will upload pics now

I can't upload the photos on here but here is the link

I was also thinking something along those lines of what that was. Also, when I had my stock turbo installed, sometimes it would boost at 12 pounds and hold and other times would shoot up to 28. I don't have a clue why sometimes it would hold and sometimes it wouldnt. anywho, I'm starting to think maybe this turbo is doing the same thing

i just checked and where my vacuum lines connect which im guessing is the factory electric boost controller looks all chewed up where the female connecter is. so maybe that could be why my car is overboosting?

Unless your stock boost control solonoid is plugged or broken it shouldnt make it overboost. Make sure your wastegate has a vacuum line running to a boost source so it will open correctly. The pictures you privided are of no help your waste gate is actually attached to the turbo and it looks like this

Check to see that there is a vacuum line running off the nipple on this piece and it should run to a boost source. Easiest place is a nipple on the j pipe.

those pictures were to see if that was a manual boost controller and the nipple goes to a connector then one line comes off the intercooler piping and another line goes from the intake and they all connect where the factory boost control is

if you have an exhaust on it with a stock o2 housing. you are prob getting boost creep. does it stop at like 12 pounds then gradually go up.

check wastegate flapper for if it is able to open to 90 degrees. if not, port out the housing until it can fully open

have to take off your o2 housing and look into your housing and check the opening and closing of the wastegate flapper. its the smaller opening of the two and has a circular door attached to a arm.

If your wastegate doesn't look like the one pictured above then you bought a knock off turbo. I had the same problem. Theres realy only two ways to fix this. 1 is to run an external wastegate or 2 adjust the arm on your wastegate actuator out untill boost is under control. Doing number 2 will increase lag because it will never fully be closed.

Sorry to break it to you but you bought a knock off turbo. It wont hold up much longer with it spiking to 25 psi, Id suggest picking up a true mhi 16g turbo or pick up a 14b instead.

14b will make a quick daily driver if you pick up a boost controller as well. I personally wouldnt run a knock off turbo some people have luck with them at very low boost settings but usually they dont end up lasting very long.

im not looking for high boost levels. im basically just wanting to know how to set it for 12 pounds. not looking to go super fast

Personally I would just run a vacuum line from the wastegate to the intercooler nipple you were talking about and dont even use the stock boost control solenoid that should put you at wastegate pressure. Also make sure your wastegate actuator doesnt have any slop in it if it does tighten it up since it is adjustable on yours. Like others have said pull your O2 housing off and make sure your wastegate is in fact opening all the way.
