New to tuning... new setup

Well, looks like got some work cut out for me.... the MAC version seems to be missing things or just in a different spot. Did make a few changed, went to get a datalog.. then the car chucked the water pump belt. DOH! So... on hold again until I get a few new belts.

As for the WB's.. I've tried all the AEM options, and the closest one was the INlineUEGO thus far. I'm going to try the LINWB per the link above and see what happens.

Dammit, hate when you get one thing going good, then something else breaks. Just keep us posted. I've never used the MAC version so I'm sorry I can't help you there, but I'll be watching the thread, if there's anything I can do then I'd jump in. :)

^^ nope, not to late! Car is a whopping 74 miles on it. I have been using the short burts between acceleration and decel already. :) Car seems overall pretty responsive thus far... which is a good sign!

I'm really just trying to set the base tune right now and make sure everything is were it needs to be in terms of MAF, injectors, and that damn AEM WB! Then go for more power after the break in.

So today's mission is to get belts; check to make sure those pullies are straight and in line, and some more messing around with the software to see where things are located on the Mac version. :)

Ok, here we go with something new. I adjusted the MAF somewhat to try to get it close to the .25 gm/rev. Also, took the TPS offset down to -6. Then messed with the AEM settings... finially got it to start reading it as an R1 gauge, and it seems ot be pretty spot on.

So now... its time to work on the fuel trim %'s right? Going to have re-watch some of those videos on how to do this again. LOL

But it seems to be running ok thus far... quite a bit smoother than I was originally expecting with the larger cams.

I have FP 272/272's in it... you would never know by the way it idles! Other than a few stumbles here and there, its really not noticeable.

Also, it really pays off to have the bottom end balanced, as well. If you are having machine work done, I'd suggest it. The car's engine runs to smooth despite having the balance shafts removed.

Did my bse 6 years ago, car ran ok even with the stiffer mounts in it. Got a build list, blocks is still at machine shop.

Ok, got a few questions....

Was messing around with the MAF to get it close to .25... but then the Combined fuel trim would go to like 21%... So I go into the fuel tab and change the deadtime of the injectors... but I'm at 400 or so and the combined fuel trims are still around 3-4%. This seems wrong to me!? I was thinking; would the aftermarket cams be a factor? Should the Airfloeperrev be higher maybe?

Attached is a clipped log...

From reading your first post and looking at the very short log you posted . your fuel pressure in link is 37.5 psi not the same as you posted 42 psi in the original post . your injector global settings in link is set to 694 cc's and you posted 650's. get these things in order and post a bit longer log and we can get you more help. btw you might wanna set your cel to come on before you get to 234 degrees. no use having it come on just as your cooking the headgasket. just a thought though.

Ok, one question tho.. where did you find the fuel pressure in link? Had no idea there was a setting for that in the computer too.

I've since bumped the pressure at the FPR to the 43.0. too.
When I click on the tab to calculate the settings for the injectors, it says 43.0.

I've noticed that changing the deadtime changed the 650 setting, as well. I originally had it at the 650 numbers... which was like -30% and 210. But yeah I'll look for that fuel pressure setting...

It's in the ecu config in the fuel page. check the calculate button it'll be in the center of the page.

this is actually the answer to your first question.

Make sure to hit the save to ecu button before you turn the car off. just in case you didn't .

As I was told in another thread, considering fuel settings are properly set. Use the deadtime you need, I run 600 for injector dead time. Some people have to run up there in order to get the Airflowperrev to around .25

GRRR.... now its got a bad high idle (2000rpm) and idle surge. (fluctuates between 1500-2000) *sigh*

It was fine last night... LOL! Guess I'll go look to see if any vac lines came loose and check for leaks...

If you post up a longer idle and cruise log we can probably help. i feel your pain the isc is something i got rid of awhile back. it runs good one minute and not the next.

Keep us posted. and BTW, I noticed I needed a lot more deadtime on idle after my cam installation. You have cams right?

Yup, its got FP2 272's. How did you get rid of the ICS?

I'll post up another longer idle log once this gets figured out... since can't do much with it surging to 2000... LOL!

Block off plate. it has a little bit higher idle than it did stock but no more surge and it doesn't idle at 2000 rpm's anymore either.

Ah, I do remember reading about a FIAV block off.. but never really looked into it... so didn't know it got rid of the ISC, too. Guess that makes sense.

Ok, here's a much longer log (clipped it some, since the file size was too big). I was messing around with the BISS (again)... was able to get it back down to like 1000-1100 or so and to stop surging. Then I noticed that if I locked the car in OL, the idle stabilized around the target of 850 (but still higher).. So it's been using closed loop to control idle? I was told that it should be in OL for idle? Something to do with o2 reading being weird at idle. If that's the case, how do you set that in Link to run OL for idle?

Sorry for all these questions.. but it seems the more I try to learn about this, the more confused I'm getting. LOL

That being said... what do you think about the AirFLowPErREV? it's kinda all over the board due to the switching in/out of OL and CL. I think I got it at one point close to the .25 target, which of course changed once I let it back into CL.

Funtimes!
