Hello fellow DSMrs and DSMtuners Members, My Name's Hunter...and Live in The Deepest part of south Texas. I used to be an avid Volkswagen/Audi afficianado..Used to own a MK4 Jetta VR6 24v Turbo..Had my fun with it and got into a curb...totalled the bottom end. Got my settlement, Went through some hard times..Long story short, I ended up buying a 1990 Eagle Talon FWD with a 4G63 (from a 1993 Eclipse) swapped in for 750$. The engine has its problems..so I knew what I was getting into

The Bad: Crankshaft is busted..and possible connecting rod issues. The car turns on...but has a really bad knock and a ticking.

Ive considered many options including rebuilding the original block with performance parts, ( I had already ordered an Eagle Crankshaft, H beam connecting rods etc etc) But right now looking into thje final expenses and hard times..I'm really needing this car to run now. So Im wanting to swap this busted engine out, put it on a stand and build it up with the parts I already have...and get a good working engine to swap in the meantime so my car can run and I can use it

Ive looked around for used engines..had no luck locally..either they didnt have them or too high mileage to even consider. I DID find one on ebay though...a 7 Bolt N/A 4G63 on ebay for 350$ under 90k miles (Seller has really good rep, etc). So I'm considering buying it and using that to swap in on the quicks so I can get it on the road...I had a few questions regarding this.

1. The current car has a 93 4G63 engine...So It's a 7 bolt right? Everything should be a direct drop in since the swap had already been done.

2. Are there any differences between the 4G63T and the 4G63? stock (I.e Internals, Manifolds, Injectors, ecu) Well besides the exhaust manifold, Like what would be needed if I wanted to throw a simple turbocharger kit like the TDO5?

Id appreciate all answers and consideration..I was a hardcore VW enthusiast..but, Im down as hell for DSMs. Ill be a constant visitor to the forum..and ready to kick some ass with this DSM. I fell in love with them.

Ill see if I can post vids of the startup and look of the ride. She's in pretty good shape for her age! Thanks folks! :hellyeah:

1) Yes, an original '93 engine will be a 7-bolt. The '90 was a "special" year so it has a lot of differences from the rest of the 1Gs. However, any 1G engine will work in your car with the correct combination of parts; in this case, by retaining all electronics currently in your car (all ignition components, sensors, and wiring), regardless of where they came from, will work on a different 1G engine. In short, electrically the car works; there is no reason to change any of those components. Hopefully that makes sense.

2) http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/articles-turbo-system-intercooler/48231-installing-turbo-4g63-into-nt-4g63.html - read and try to understand first; ask questions later. ;)

Welcome aboard!

Sweeet! Thats what I was hoping for..I appreciate the answer. Im still looking around the website and getting used to it all..also doing it through a smart phone. Frustrating to say the least.
