Which manifold is black and gummed up? It it's the intake side you could have a bad PCV valve, or more likely the EGR is doing it's thing...

Had to order fuel rail spacers (two were just missing) won’t be here until Friday, so today I spent the day prepping all of my intake parts and fuel rail for paint. Have almost everything primed except the intake manifold. Don’t like the sand cast texture on it, so I’m grinding and sanding it all smooth. Then it will also be painted. Also noticed 3 of the 4 injectors have cracks in the plastic portion of the nozzles... not sure how big of a deal that is, but ordering new ones anyways. Tomorrow things will be painted, just the upper intake so far. The bumper will be coming off, along with the intercooler and lower intercooler piping. Have to replace all of my silicone couplers (for aesthetics reasons) and because my head won’t let things go half assed. Lol.

Forgot to mention Incase it was overlooked, had to do the valve cover gasket so I also cleaned the cover and did it with the VHT black wrinkle finish. Cleaned the DOHC letters and will probably do the Mitsubishi as well, was just too difficult to tape up that day.

Let it dry till tomorrow before you handle it. Let it dry for 2 days if you need to sress it (push or pull hard).

It sucks to wait but it sucks even worse to do it twice and wait some more.

Nice job by the way. I'm not a fan of purple, but you did a good job.

Never been a huge fan of purple, but the paint scheme of the car will make it look pretty awesome I think, and if not, I’ll take it apart and come up with something else. And thanks to the quarantine (even though it’s horrible) I don’t have to handle any of it today

Started putting the car back together today, noticed the PCV was being held in place with RTV. Starting looking a bit closer and realized the VC is broken where the PCV screws in, the top half of the threads are completely gone. Not sure where to go from here without buying a new valve cover

Looking good, a little tip for painting raised/lowered letters. Use Vaseline on them paint what you need to paint and then just wipe the vaseline off when paint is dry. That's how I painted my valve cover and intake manifold in my profile picture.

Thanks to the Taboo Speed Shop vacuum diagram I went through and deleted my evap stuff, all my vacuum lines, and even made my own EGR block off plate. Just used thin metal between the valve and gasket. Mounted (not installed yet) my new Blox MBC, while disconnecting the waste gate actuator line to replace with new hose, the nipple broke right off. It was apparently getting weak already because I didn’t even get to squeeze the pliers on the clamp and it popped off in my hand. New parts ordered and will be here by Monday. So next week she will be back on the road.

Decided since the weather here is turning nice again, I can park the Eclipse for a bit and use my motorcycle. Today tearing into the engine bay. Replacing the intake manifold gasket and some exhaust gaskets. The inside of the manifold is all kinds of gummed up and black. Like tar. I’m sure it is oil. I’ve been driving it for a bit now, and also found what looks like a rear main leak. Will cross that one when I get there. Going to clean up the bay as I go, knowing it will be pointless but it’ll make me feel a bit better until I have to do it again.

If you don't have oil in your charge pipes, most likely you're getting oil through from the PCV system. Install a catch can with an oil resistant one way check valve.

Almost no oil in the charge pipes. More of a thin oily film. Definitely leaning towards PCV system. Have to replace all the couplings on the turbo system though, some are cracked, and others are just nasty, or just a bit too big and clamped as tight as they could.

Does your vent tube run to the intake? You can have oil from there as well. Yeah those couplers are shot

The tube that goes to the lower part of the intake manifold was routed back to the intake. I’m figuring most of the oil issue from the top side was the PCV luckily. With no signs of excessive oil in other parts should mean I don’t have to worry about the turbo for a while. And there is almost no shaft play in it either
