new oil pump kit , no castle plug? and shaved balance shafts?

Ok so I bought a new oem oil-pump kit, it came with everything but the castle plug and front timeing gear. What i want to know is, can i reuse my old castle plug or not? I just need to know how much it affects the flow of oil, if at all. Its a $4 part so buying it is not a problem, its just waiting for the shiping. And for my second question, for my balance shaft elemination, can i just cut off the shafts, the reason i ask is i have some old stuby shafts that someone cut down and gave to me with something i baught on craigslist, just need to know if its a good idea to run these or not, again i can buy a BSEK its just waiting for shipping again that im trying to avoid, Thanks in advance

For the shafts, you would be better off getting the BSEK. I know the timing belt kit that STM sells includes a BSEK, but that's assuming you don't have the timing parts yet.

You can reuse the castle plug if you didn't mangle it but you do need to use a new o-ring to seal it.

So new seal, ok well I might as well just buy a new plug as well as its only $4 anyway. as far as tightnig the castle plug down, would you say its ok to use a some loctite, and a flat head screwdriver and mallat to torqe it in there a little bit? or do I have to buy the tool for it, i understand i woud need to be carefull as the front case cracks easy,

I used a flathead screwdriver and some red loctite. I havent had any problems.

It's not like this cap has to do anything but seal the oil so locktite on it seems like a mistake.

I use red on the driven gear bolt and on the nut for the sprocket but with a new o-ring and torquing the cap to spec (14-20 ft lbs) I've never had a problem with it backing off or leaking. I usually have a problem getting it loose.
