new guy with auto trans questions

i am just getting into dsms and i got a good deal on a 96 gsx auto. i am wondering how much abuse the autos can take. i see parts to build them like any other trans but what all is involded to get one of these trans to hold power like 4 or 500. i see there are billet converters, and then custom stalls. at what power would you need billet at?

autos can hold there own just as well as the MT's , as you said there is work involved. Shift kit, reworked/upgraded Vavle body and a stall converter help alot. Upgraded trans cooler will aid in that as well. IPT trans in NJ is your go to guys. I've been buying parts for mine from there, from filters to fluids. I have yet coughed up the money to buy a fully built trans from them but i know when i do , they got my back.

they would be able to answer all your questions so i would give them a call when there open, as im not sure at what "HP" you would need them, as some run a locking TQ and do ok around 400hp so depends but it can be done, have fun ~ Never Lift to Shift ~

thats whos site i was looking at! im pretty sure i will give them my business. i mean i live in maryland so they arent far either. i want to go ahead and put a cooler on it now. does anyone know how hard these transmissions are to build? any special tools required? iv built a few transmissions (4l60e, 700r4, alisson 1000) im definitaly not afraid to go into a trans but wasnt sure about theses
