Hi everyone, I just bought a 97 GST for $850. There are only 2 things wrong with this car... The upper ball joint that some of you guys helped me with and the other is the Rack and Pinion that I have to do later. What should I be on the look out for and what upgrades should I do????

What's wrong with the rack?
Do a boost leak test, check the timing belt, check the turbo for shaft play.
Check all joints, tie rods, brakes, etc.

Actually, just scroll to the top of this page and read everything. Before you do any upgrades.

What should I be on the look out for and what upgrades should I do????

You probably need to check for a leak on the line if not clutch adjustment.

Hey guys, i was just working on my gst and found something missing... I dont know what it is, maybe one of you guys could give some tips. Its on my 97 eclipse gst, the left side of the engine. Might want to also looking into bleeding the clutch.

I don't want to rain on your parade, but it could be crankwalk. Probably unlikely, as a lot of people say that most engines that "would have" crankwalked, already have.

Supposedly crankwalk can make the clutch stick, due to the play in the crank in the same direction that the clutch moves. It's most prominent while taking left turns. It would be worth it to do a search on crankwalk, and compare some symptoms/see if you can diagnose.

Who knows, though. It could possibly be as simple as needing to bleed the system, or simply adjust the position of the pedal. Good luck!

Crankwalk seems a little extreme for a sticking clutch. Your clutch is a hydraulic system meaning there is no mechanicals linkage other than the pedals. You should look at the pedal bushings and shaft under the dash. Look for leaks around the master cylinder, slave cylinder, and the lines. Check your fluid level to start. Basic visual inspection can help you out alot.

That part you're missing might be the little breather part, not too sure from the pictures. As someone who has recently, actually had a crankwalked engine, the clutch pedal had no change in how it felt compared to normal. Engine een drove fine. Only noticable issue was the crank trigger plate clicking against the crank sensor every time the clutch pedal was pressed. I never had engine problems otherwise, because I was running a 1g CAS. Crankwalk isn't nearly as common as most assume. Even I didn't want to believe it was crankwalk, until I had firm proof of it.

I agree with Kuzi, I had to replace my clutch master cylinder last year because it was leaking inside the cabin. It would on occasion feel soft and not return right away. I had to pump it a few times to return pressure. Pull back your carpet if needed and check it out.

Okay guys thank for all your feed back. The missing part was a clutch breather plug. Second the sticking clutch, once I adjusted the length of it... It stopped. What I mean is I cod extend or shorten the length of how much I wanted to press under the dash. However, prior to doing this.... The car shakes very violently only starting off in first gear. So at a dead stop, when I take off in first gear it shakes like crazy, but won't shake anymore after that... Anyone have any clues?

You already have a post for this. Dont muddy up this topic. Btw that breather is for the transmission, not clutch

It is difficult to help you without a profile. We dont know anything about the car. Your enthusiasm is noted but help us help you. Tackle one problem at a time.

....true, .. everything else is going good and sorry for the little things. The problem I'm having now is the shaking in only first gear at a dead stop. Nothing else is wrong with the car, the 97 gst has only exhaust and air intake modifications. It was running fine before... Now it just shakes like crazy.
