Why don't the rear upper mounts have standoffs?

Maybe your using different terminology, maybe its 1:10am and I finished installing a suspension a short time ago and im worn out and my brain is no longer funcioning...but standoff - explain what you are referring to...

The spacing between the spring hat and mount plate on the fronts is achieved by a standoff, right?
The rears don't have that spacing.

Ok, I figured that's what we were talking about. Pillowball upper mount with a koyo spherical bearing. Camber adjustable on McPhearson, fixed on A-Arm.

Also, I feel like I'm answering and "selling" too much. if you have product questions, etc. please feel free to email me at [email protected]

Out of respect to Chris and other vendors that do pay to be here, I just don't want to cross that line until I have something in stone with Chris.

So are any 1g DSMers running these? Seems like decent quality for not much more than a set of Megan Racing.

I haven't pushed into the DSM market at all yet...

I kinda just go one at a time, so I can focus my efforts on getting it right the first time.

Notwithstanding the initials, I have nothing to do with these shocks.

When I sold shocks, I dynoed every single shock and gave the customer the plot for his exact shocks. There's just too much manufacturing tolerance variation in most shocks to rely on a "typical" plot, plus that way I knew for sure that the customer got what he asked for.

"Springs made in house" is a warning, not a feature. Springs are not easy to make well. I ran all my springs through a spring checker, and the only ones that would pass were Hypercoil and Eibach. The only ones to pass regularly were Hypercoil.

I remain extremely skeptical of any shocks coming out of Japan or China. Not a single shock from there ever crossed my dyno that wasn't outright junk.

That doesn't mean that it will always be so. It is entirely possible that some day, a Chinese suspension manufacturer will get its act together and start producing quality parts. These might even be them; I don't know. But I recommend EXTREME skepticism, and if purchased, the very first thing I would do would be to have them dynoed on a dyno I trusted.

First, thanks to Dennis for joining the thread.
QC is indeed a legit concern.

Second,

You still misinterpreted. He was asking why the rear coilover assembly pictured on your site does not have an upper spring perch mounted on the damper shaft, but rather uses the upper shock-assembly-to-vehicle mount plate to locate the top of the spring.

Taken out of context a bit, but:
DG-FNR via farnorthracing.com/autocross/konis.html said:
the spring rests directly on the underside of the mount plate, and that is a HUGE no-no. The spring needs to be able to pivot to be able to remain coaxial to the shock shaft without bending

The spring does not rest against the mounting plate, on pillowball applications, the spring top is seated by a cup, and spherical bearing. On a pure racing application, every detail matters, for a daily driver/ weekend warrior, no one would notice if they had fixed upper plates, spherical bearing, etc.

Also, those pictures on the site are generic...they are not application specific. ;-)

Also, had to re-read a few times and realized we were talking about the REAR...sorry, I'm not totally with it today. The kit comes in both configurations which can be chosen. The avg. person wanting the pillowball rear would go to the circuit spec suspension.

That is the front that you pictured. The rear (right unit in the picture below, just to clarify) is what people are questioning about.

As opposed to the rears that Dennis Grant (DG-FNR) has designed and made in the past. Rear units are on the left in this picture.

Yeah, I figured out we were talking about the rears... ;-)

Rollover...if you hung out in Bel Air - I had the BRIGHT green Miata that was later painted the orangish/ copper.

My apologies Chris. I got your PM a while ago on my phone (tapatalk) but I hate trying to type long responses, so now that I'm back on a real computer... :D
