Well I have come to find out that I have busted my left rear cv joint and need to replace the axle. I had ordered both left and right axles from Autozone only to find out (after they lost my order the first time) they sent me front axles. I later found out that neither Autozone or Advance Auto (the only 2 local auto parts stores) carry rear axles for a 2g gsx. Can anyone offer a suggestion as to where I can order some axles that won't break the bank? I know Drive Shaft Shop axles are $1800 a pair for the stage 5 axles, which is all I could find on their site, and DSM Graveyard has axles for $280 per side. I'd like to pay that for both axles at max. Both the axles that I recieved ran me $220 without the cores.

Also can anyone offer and help on how to get a seized axle out of the hub? A buddy of mine and I worked on it today and after a lot of blood, sweat, swearing, hammering, and beating we finally got the axle out but it's still seized in the hub. We used mallets, hammers, lots of nut buster, and even an 8 ton press and still had no luck. Any help is GREATLY appreciated since my car is my daily driver. I can't afford to go too long without it.

I just replied to an almost identical post the other day...the only options (to my knowledge) are the ones that you have mentioned or find good used ones. Rear axles are a PITA! I dealt with the same thing you are going through on my 95 over the summer, so I feel your pain. When you do get replacements, make sure to use anti-seize on the spines so you can get them apart if you need to in the future.

No one carries rear axles and Mitsu stopped making them also. DSM Graveyard is making some now for 280$ a piece but I think they are only for an LSD rear, but may make non lsd ones in the future. Your only option besides that is a used axle. Goodluck!

Thanks guys. I'll have to look into the Raxles axles. I had the car at the dealership a few weeks back and they said that the left axle was $580 and the right one was $620. I thought that was way too much. As far as the DSM Graveyard axles working only for the LSD (excuse the n00b question) how can I tell if I have the LSD or not? I was told that all the 99 gsx's had it. Is this true?

Just check your rear diff tag. It will say Viscous LSD if its an LSD right above the 3 letter code.

I just wanted to give an update to this situation. Apparently other than the dsmgraveyard axles, the only other option for replacements are DSS and AMS, both are very expensive. After making many many phone calls I finally found a place locally that can rebuild axles. I'm going to be dropping the pieces off tomorrow morning and pray for the best. I hope to have my car back up and running by this weekend. My car is just chilling in my buddies garage and it somehow seems that more and more of my parts are ending up on his girlfriend's talon....

Okay, so I just had another member on here respond to my wanted ad for the axle. The only thing is that his car is a 5-speed and I'm an auto. Would I be able to use these axles? I know the gearing in the diffs are different but what about the number of splines? Or is there any other reason why I wouldn't be able to use his?
