Hi. Im new to DSMs. I have a 96 Eclipse GST Spyder which is totaled. It was my little brothers but he wrecked it and gave it to me. I pulled the front end apart and found that the frame is crumpled up on the driverside just behind the strut tower. So I was looking for something to swap the drivetrain into. I can get an almost complete 1g for a couple hundred bucks that doesn't run. Its a SOHC I believe. Anyways I searched and found alot of 1G into 2g swaps but not any 2g engine into 1g car swaps. I'm just trying to get something drivable because my truck is killing me on gas. So I was wondering what modifications are required for this swap. I already know I'm going to have swap the ECU and harness. No problems there. But what about the tranny? Will it work with the 1G driveshafts or do need to swap them too? I'm basically trying to figure out if it is feasible or not to do this swap now or should I wait and see if a bodyshop can fix the frame when I save up the cash. I'll post pics of the frame damage tomorrow so you guys can see what I'm talking about.

Believe me I'd love to fix the 2g. I'm just not sure I can. It got slid under a truck with a utility box at 70mph. The frame on the driverside up top just behind the strut tower is crumpled back pretty bad. I'm going to try to have a friend of the family who owns a bodyshop come out and see what he'll charge to repair it. I'm going to strip it down and reassemble it myself. I'm just having him do the frame work and replace the coresupport. The rest I can do myself.

Humm...you can find 2g shells rather easy there's a guy on mitsu media selling a 2ga talon tsi awd shell it need a little body work but nothing like what your talking about.
I'll get you a link if your interested.

I agree with the guys above. Go find yourself a shell gst or gsx and use that instead. You will save yourself a big headache in the end.

Ya. I've been looking. They just arn't plentiful around the Mississippi gulfcoast. I'm not buying anything yet anyways I was just curious if it'd fit since its just sitting in his field. Here's a pic of my 2G. Its all stripped down now so I'll take and post some more detailed ones later today. Thanks for all the help.

You have a GST....There is no driveshaft. It is FWD.

I don't think you will be able to save the car based on the picture.
