Merry Christmas everyone!

I'll be selling my current DSM soon for another (both 1g's), and I have a few questions on how I want to tune the new car. It currently has a new motor, trans, etc with 0 miles and untuned. Mods are Wiseco's (compression unknown right now), 20g, 3", Buscher street FMIC, 650's, Walboro 255, SAFC and HKS VPC.

I know the basic setup is fairly common, so hopefully these will be easy ;)

1: What is the max boost I can run, with a reasonable degree of safety, on 93 octane pump gas? It's a 6 bolt motor I should ad.

2: Should I tune with the SAFC and VPC, or ditch them in favor of DSM Link? (yes it has an E-prom ECU).

3: Inline GM MAF with MAFT or Speed density? I can obtain a GM MAF and MAFT very inexpensively from my dealings with LS1's for the last 4 years so cost and availability is not an issue there.

4: Keep the 650's or bump to 750's?

I guess that's it for now, more questions to follow later I'm sure :) Thanks!

Max boost can be determined by how much knock you get and how you tune your car. You will need a logger for this, so I would say go with DSMLink because it is so user friendly. GM MAFT's have worked for many people on here and if you can get one for cheap I would say go for it. :thumb: The decision between 650's and 750's depends on how you tune the car and how much power you plan to make. Remember with more fuel you can turn the boost up safely. Stick with what you have now and if the need arises and you are maxing out your 650's, then upgrade to 750's. All in all you will need a way to tune/log everything going on and DSMLink is a not so expensive user friendly way to do all of this. :thumb:

Thanks for the reply:)

I'm leaning much towards the DSMLink but opinions are always appreciated.

I figure for what I can get for the SAFC and VPC, DSMLink will be just about free anyway.

As far as using a GM MAF, do I still need a MAFT with DSMLink, or can I tune it from there?

In the power department, I'm probably looking to make as much as the motor can handle with reasonable reliability. I've heard a 6 bolt can do in the area of 500ish hp on the stock bottom end, so I suppose in the 380-400 area if that's possible with that setup. In a 2800lb car, that should make at least as fast, if not faster, than my old nitroused LS1. :D

^ I'd have to agree. Definitely get DSMLink, because as you add more mods you'll be producing more power and if you decide to go with 650's this time around, you'll need bigger injectors sooner or later. The problem there is, the SAFC can only handle up to 650's so in that case you might as well get DSMLink and purchase 750 injectors or higher. I have 850's on my car for future plans. No sense buying them twice.

Yes, you still need the MAFT with the GM MAF. The MAFT is used to convert the GM MAF signal for use with the DSM ECU. The stock 2G MAS should handle 380-400HP, however the MAF/MAFT setup will remove the restriction before the turbo if you decide to go with the blow through setup.

Thanks for the replies :)

One thing I havn't heard an opinion on yet, what does everyone thing about speed density systems vs. metered air systems? Most of the high HP systems I've seen on other FI cars are typicly speed density. Parishes 1,000hp turbo Silverado is a good example that I can think of off the top of my head.

I would definitely sell your s-afc and vpc to get the DSMlink. This will you allow full control of the fuel, timing, knock, and log more parameters than you have time to look at.
