Newbie question.

Just got my ACT 2100 with Street Disk, installed together with my New Stage 1 Trans from shepracing, today.

Everything is fine.. Clutch catches very fast.

But it seems when I am drive very slowly (almost stopping) I get a very strong burning smell.. Is this due to the brand new clutch? (been driving it pretty easy for about 20 miles now.. I haven't even boosted once.. I think..)

Is this something normal or something to worry about?

Thanks.

If it's working properly, I'd keep driving it easily and see if it stops smelling. With it being so new, it's probably just breaking in.

Thanks Ryan, everything seems to be working OK.. Gears are still stiff due to brand new trans. The clutch pedal is very easy to push in.. even smoother and easier than stock. Then again, I did the SS clutch line upgrade and removed that extra circuit/cylinder which reduces feedback to the clutch pedal.

OK.. This morning went back to work (drove about 17 miles) and the smell is still there, but much less than yesterday. I only get that smell when I adjust the airvents to get air from outside, and when I am driving at traffic speeds (I beleive less than around 20mph or so), or near stopping speeds..

I had a feeling it was due to the new clutch breaking in but I wasn't sure and wanted to confirm. If someone has first hand experience it will be nice to get your feedback.

I asked the same question via e-mail to John this is what he said:

'..It is normal for the clutch to smell'

Just to change the topic slightly..

I notice that my clutch catches, when the pedal is only about a quarter of the way up from the bottom. I've read that the clutch should engage at only around half way of pedal travel and not quarter way...

Ever since I bought the car, it has been the case, engagement, only about a quarter of travel upwards. I remeber the first time I drove it, I was so surprised that the clucth engaged almost right off the floor..

When I talked to the Mitsu mechanics here they say not to touch the clutch rod assembly and leave it stock..

What do you all say..??

I would like to know what that smell is too. I just installed a ACT 2100 w/street disk too and mine has smelled like burning tires for a couple of months now every time i drive it and i know my clutch is adjusted properly.... I would really like to know what the smell is- i would also like a new car because the problems are just driving me insane- i cant put enough money into this junker to keep it running:toobad:
