Neutral bov sound

i was just wondering how it's possible to hear a bov in neutral if your not building any boost? i searched and couldn't find the answer.

If your not building boost then you wont hear the BOV. the BOV releases excess pressure from the turbo. so no boost= no BOV sound.

yeah, i know that. My question was how it makes the sound in neutral when usually you're not building boost in neutral (to my knowledge).

no while it's just idle'ing , ofcourse when you rev.

If your refering to that green eclipse in F+F that had a blow off at idle...that was fake.
If your not building boost there will be no blown off air. you can hear the valve faintly open if you revv it up a bit. I have a blow through set-up where I can vent properly and I cant make noise in neutral. more boost = louder sound.

Ok, you guys don't seem to understand what i'm asking. The idle'ing comment was sarcasm. I know you can't hear a bov at idle. I'm talking about when you free rev. I'm not trying to figure out a way to do this for myself, i'm just curious how it works.

If that were true, wouldn't that be considered boosting? My boost gauge only reads vaccum during free revving. And some cars i've heard get loud ass bov sounds when revving, not just "some" as you say.

i have an elctronic boost controller and i have seen it read 8.6psi peak from reving in neutral

It is possible to have a bov go ppssshhh, but you have to rev really high in order to. My gs-t when it hits 5k does it, but to answer your question i have no idea how it builds while at neutral.

maybe its just the load from the clutch and stuff, you got me stumped

I only read the first few posts... First off, You don't need to build boost for the blow off valve to go off. As soon as you step on the gas, There is air in the piping.. When the throttle plate closes, The air has no where to go except out of the bov... You do not need to be under boost in order for the blow off valve to work though, Just so you know. Go blip your throttle and stick your finger on top of the puck of your bov, You'll see that it opens, If you are going to try to prove anyone wrong.

if i push my pedal to the floor and immediatly let off it will blow off...not extremely loud but easily heard...i have the hks ssqv...maybe its something with that bov

I'm just saying that the BOV will sound louder under full boost while driving then it will when you rev it up to 5k and let off the gas. weather it's loud or not wasn't question it;s was about making the BOV sound

i'm just curious how it works. So does the loudness of it depend on the bov? It's just confusing because on my talon, i could never hear the bov when free revving (not that i want to), and my friend's 97 gst i couldn't hear it either. People seem to think that the only reason i'm asking this question is because i want my car to do it too. I just wanna know how it works.

I greatly agree with you, half the time chick's have no clue what the sound is. I took a chick for a ride and she said whats wrong with your car when she heard it.

The more air in the piping, The louder the bov is going to be, Being it is releaving more air pressure.

Ok I will answer your question the best that I can since no one else seems to get it, you are building some kinds of gas through your car thus creating some air into the intake pipe. The reason why you might not hear it, is you could have the stock intake box on still, if not then you might have something else going on thats preventing you from hearing the sound.

From my experince I can blow off, from netural rev only cause I can create engine load up to 5k.

so your saying that when your boost gauge reads VAC you can hear your BOV???
