My 1998 GSX is getting to the point that i feel is ready for a bigger turbo. I followed the site for the "Stage 1" upgrades and i am one part away from finishing it. If there is one thing that i hate the most is doing things over... This is where the problem occurs, what turbo would be good for me. Im looking for power and i would not mind some lag if nessisary. But at the same time i dont expect to run in the 10's. The 3 turbos im debating over are the EVO III 16G, a 20G, or a Hybrid T3/T4. I know that injector sizing will be an issue. If i go with the smaller 16G everyones saying to do 550's, but anything bigger go with 650's. A friend of mine is running mid 12's in his 1st gen talon, and he has a T3/T4 on it. The lag on the street is horrible i feel but i love the powerful punch it puts out once that turbo kicks in, so im conciterig buying one. At the same time i see that some sites say that a EVO III 16G is capable of putting down "400whp Easily" (dsmparts.com), but personally i do not belive it. I bought a 255lph fuel pump that i will be installing this weekend, and the next step is to add my injectors. CAN YOU PUT BIGGER INJECTORS IN WITH OUT THE USE OF AN SAFC??? this is the hold up... Some say yes others say no... If anyone could help me out on the problems i am facing please let me know. and if anyone has some input on any of these turbos please do the same.

undefined Okay first off you need a source of tunning your car. You car not ready to up grade your turbo if you have not bought a safc(fuel control) or some sort of tunning device (logger).. and If you want to have good spoolup hte evoIII16g is an AWESOME turbo for hte street. but so is a 50trim. and they cost about the same. You just might as well go with 650's Since more fuel is always good later down the road. As long as you can control it. And I would wait 2 put bigger injectors in your car but until you can control the fuel. Cause our cars already run rich from the factory and given it more fuel will on make it run worse and get rich knock.

dont install the injectors without some way of managing them (my opinion) you can get a safc II for 219$ on ebay (thats where i got mine) and get a logger...logging is sooo wonderful and necessary
 
yeah before a turbo upgrade you should have alot of the modifications done already (all of the electronics- a/f controller, turbo timer, some sort of boost controller and gauge, a data logger of some sort) and then start getting fuel mods (190lph or 255lph, depending on how much power you plan on wanting) then get a turbo and intercooler and start tuning!
 
You need some type of fuel management when you are installing bigger injectors. if you want to autocross, then the 16g. if you like to drag race and want your car for drag racing, then go with the 20g or t3/t4. 400whp is normally the Max for the evo3 16g, not 400whp easily. i would go with the 20g because it bolts up directly, but if you want to buy a new manifold and o2 housing and havent upgraded them yet then the t3/t4 is a great turbo also.

Yeah with a 2.3 stroker and 25psi on race gas and then some.
 
Thanx for the info about the turbo, and fuel upgrades. As for what i have done to the car monitoring wise, i have an A/F gauge as well as a boost and fuel pressure gauge. I do have a manual boost contoller, and a manual fuel pressure regulator, as well as a turbo timer (all my parts that are in the car are posted in my profile). Fuel wise other than the B&M command flow i did buy a 255lph fuel pump, thats why i thought that the injectors were next step. I guess the reason why im weary about putting the SAFC in the car is the whole factor about throwing a check engine light.. in NY where i live if you have one pending in the computor the car WILL fail.. and NO there is no way arround it because 96 and newer cars are plugged in and checked by Albany.. My car already failed 7 times and i still do not have a current sticker. Does anyone ever have a prolbem with the SAFC throwing a check engine light? Other than that i should have said that im not doing autocross im looking for drag race style driving mainly. My guess is that after putting in the new fuel pump you guys would recomend putting in the SAFC, insted of working on injector and bigger turbos just yet.. But the whole logger thing im confused about... what is it?, and what does it do?
 
injectors should not be bought unless you have an SAFC or another tuning device. I just bought my 550cc injectors and an SAFC and they are both going in on the same day then being tuned the next.

a logger tells you exactly what your car is doing, or at least a simple logger. You cant tune with it, but it lets you know that eveyrthing is running great or not so great.
