i recently discovered that my cars previous owner had tried to patch a leak in the thermostat cover with rtv rather than replace it.:banghead: so now i need a new one to fix it. i have looked online at orielys advanced and auto zone. if someone could point me in the right direction that would be extremely helpful.

exactly what it said. rather i found out today that it was a crack in the housing that the previous owner tried to jbweld. needless to say it is still leaking. i have found one through the classifieds though.

Maybe you haven't found the correct part, because you are not calling it the correct thing? I am assuming you are talking about the upper or lower thermostat housing. The lower attaches to the head with 3 studs in a triangular form. There is a gasket between there.

But yea...a picture of what you are wanting to know about would be helpful.

...On a 1G. It is a 4-bolt rectangular pattern on a 2G.

OP said he found whatever he needed in the classifieds. Let's leave it alone.

I'm not saying the 3-bolt pattern doesn't exist on the 2G head, but the 2G thermostat housing is a 4-bolt rectangular pattern. I drew on this picture to try to show that the 2G head (top) has both bolt patterns to run either a 1G or 2G thermostat housing while the 1G head (bottom) only has the pattern for the 1G thermostat housing.

Ah! Thank you for the clarification that pic was most helpful. And also glad the OP found what they were looking for.

hey everyone thanks for the help. it was the upper thermostat housing. the reason i called it a thermostat cover is because thats what haynes called it. but regardless i have replaced the thermostat and now my car is fine no more leaks.
