2G Need some Wastegate knowledge

So there's no confusion, I know how wastegates work, and what their purpose is. I know the difference between internal and external. Here's my situation. I got a knock-off 16g turbo on my gsx that was there when I bought it. I have a GM turbo-diesel turbo sitting in storage that is good. I did look it up once to find out the model, but it's been so long I don't remember. Anyway, the internal WG it had was crap and I removed it. I have a tubular exhaust manifold that fits it perfectly that I got from a friend years ago, but it has the extra tube for an external WG. If I get an external and have the internal flapper welded shut, do I have to have the external dump back into the exhaust, or can I just have it dump to atmosphere? What is the determining factor for this?

Here's the turbo and manifold, the compressor housing has been clocked to face down. What would go in the spot that's circled in the 2nd picture?

You can dump or recirculate the wastegate, doesn't matter. The bung would be for an exhaust temperature sensor (it would probably kill an o2 sensor fast).

Awesome, thanks. Guess I'll find a better bolt for the sensor bung.

That bung with the bolt is probably 1/8 ntp, threads for a back pressure or EGT sensor

Only problem with running dumped to atmosphere wastegate is its loud as shit and cops arent a fan, otherwise its my preferred method.
