Need QUIET 1g muffler

By quiet I mean nothing like the Apexi N1. Something that sounds almost stock. I got my RNR Racing turbo-back on today and it's just way too loud. It's the 3" straight through muffler so I need something to replace it. My friend's 2g GS-T has an RSR catback and that's the kind of tone I want. Of course, RSR never made anything for the 1g and they stopped making it for DSM's altogether. The Apexi WS is quiet, but they don't sell just the muffler.

I'm afraid to drive my car now, the cops around here will pull me over instantly. Maybe there's a silencer I can buy somewhere? I need any help I can get. Do any 1G owners have a quiet muffler, if so, what do you use?

If you look on ebay, theres a guy sellin Apexi International 3" Universal Mufflers, for like $189 shipped. Or You can get the HKS catback, its exactly liek stock, and jsut as quiet, and still gives power, and its 3"

Any free flowing 3" exhaust is going to give you way too much noise. Do you have a cat on there? How about adding some resonators? Using a more restrictive muffler? Now you're pretty much going to have to butcher up your whole exhaust. The apex-i N1 exhaust really isn't that bad compared to some of the east coast systems. If you put the silencer on there, it'll be much more pleasant. Good luck.

I think I talked to you earlier today.I would suggest putting two long resonaters in the exhaust system. We sell them or you could take it to a muffler shop and have them welded in. I wouldn't suggest changing the muffler because you want a straight through design. The silencers/resonators will help quiet the car down.

Usually most people don't think that the 3" exhaust is too loud. If you were driving alongside your car in another car you would probably say the same thing.

Ok, from what I got of your webpage, your using a test pipe. Change that over to a 2.5 or 3" high flow cat and that will cut some of your noise. You might want to look into that resonator as well. As far as a muffler, it's going to be hard to get a straight through that will be quieter. I can't imagine buying a 3" turbo back and not expecting it to be loud. My 2.5" turbo back with a cat. goes on this weekend hopefully and I'm already preparing myself for the increase in noise.

and make sure that no part of the exhaust is touching the car. It all has to be supported by rubber or else it will transmit alot more noise inside the car. That happened with my 3" from another reputable builder. After I re- hung the pipes it was much better, still loud, but a nice loud, not annoyingly loud.

Swap your test pipe over to a hi-flow cat. GReddy SP, GReddy Evo, and GReddy Power Xtremes are all pretty quiet style exhaust. If you search classifieds, you may get lucky and find JUST a GReddy muffler someone sawed off. My friend found JUST a GReddy Evo muffler off of www.thepartstrader.com

Thanks man, I bought the Apexi International 3" muffler. The local muffler shop installed it today and it sounds great. No more droning noise giving me headaches. It's very quiet for a straight through muffler. Just a little louder than stock, but I've already ordered the Apexi 115mm Silencer. It looks awesome just like the Apexi WS muffler. At first I thought it was, but the WS isn't straight-through like this one is.

Does anyone else get popping noises after accelerating? My car goes *vrooom... pop pop pop*. It doesn't bother me, I just want to know why its happening. Maybe someone threw some popcorn kernals into my muffler.

Sup MarkGSX.. your car is much cleaner and newer looking than my 1g ever was. Now all the hot rod parts from my 1g is in my 2g.. i'm selling the 1g soon.

Does the popping sound you're talking about only happen when you let off the throttle? I used to get the same thing on my 1g before i installed my afc.. I think that sound was the car running rich and all the unburnt fuel igniting going out the exhaust. I just leaned the car out and the popping sound went away.

Yeah, that is when it happens. I don't have an AFC so I bet that is what it is. Oh well, I guess running rich is better than lean! The SAFC is next on my list.

Too bad you're selling your 1g. I guess I need to find a new twin..
