2G Need opinions on flywheel

So the transmission is out, the clutch is beyond done for and the flywheel, well by the looks of it i'm not going to chance resurfacing it so i decided to go ahead and spend the money to get one. Now my problem is not knowing which one i want, there are so many options out there that the choices are endless. I'm pretty sure i have my heart set on this Fidanza but would like more opinions. I will be using an oem clutch kit so nothing fancy there, but i want a flywheel that is durable, has a long life span, and something i can rely on to match up nicely with whatever clutch i put in it later on.

This is what i'm thinking about getting now, what are your thoughts?

guessing its a daily type car? personally, idk if id go with an aluminum flywheel. i havent looked recently but id try to find a chrome moly FW. i like the inertia in a street car, but if you intend to drive it harder, a light aluminum can be nice for quick revs.

It will be used as a daily and only long enough until i find another shell. I just wanted to get something that would be good for when I slowly upgrade when i get another shell. I just don't want to have to buy two, i was hoping to get by with the Fidanza with an oem clutch and then upgrade the clutch later..

Do you have any links for other options? What are the advantages and disadvantages of aluminum vs. Chrome Moly?

Do I gain anything either way? I mean from what I could see they are both within $10 of each other, if one is better than the other i mean $10 is more than worth it. Unless i was looking at a different ACT and am confused

a steel flywheel will retain rotating inertia much better than the aluminum one, which will also help dampen the engagement. bastard is right on the money. the fidanza has replaceable frictions surfaces, but the steel flywheels would give the aforementioned drivability and can be resurfaced similar to a stock one.

The steel flywheel are much more durable than the aluminum ones. Also they flex less so you get better clutch actuation. Finally, a light flywheel is the last thing you want on a turbo 4 cyl.

I agree with this if you are wanting a lighter weight flywheel but for the most part you really arent seeing any major benefit to having such on the car without really being up there in power or have a massive turbo and need a rev happy car. I find that for a DD the heavier the clutch, the more enjoyable my drive is. Just really adding my $.02 for the purpose of posting really. I think money can be better spent elsewhere on the car. Stock flywheel 2 step machined and get back to enjoying your car.

Steel flywheel on any car that is driven on the street

Aluminum and light weight units have harsh engagement and require more revs when releasing the clutch.

I've had both flywheels. I prefer my act streetlite. I do like the fact the fidanza has the removable surfaces but again I prefer my act

I appreciate everyone's opinions! I went ahead and purchased the ACT streetlite and has since been installed. Just purchased my suspension and it should be here the last week of March. While waiting for the suspension i have some broken bolts to take care of. >.< Turns out i'm going to have to drop the front end just so i can do them, it's turning into more of a hassle than i thought it was going to be. But all said and done after a year on jack stands (Due to my broken leg that i still can't walk on) it should be on the road by the middle of April!

Okay, started putting suspension on and forgot about all the busted bolts that have have broke over the course that it has been on the jack stands. Subframe has been taken out and am in the process of drilling the bolts out. I found a thread on here that has been helpful of telling me sizes that i need for everything.

My issue is that i need to know the best site in which i can purchase my bolts and have a part number with it so i can call Mitsubishi and get it ordered or place an order online myself. I'm hoping there are enough people on here that have commented that might be able to get the word out or know of a place. The bolts i need are as follows:

Straight lower control arm to strut x2
curved lower control arm through subframe into body x4 (there are two different sizes)
caliper bracket bolts x4
subframe bolts for the reinforcement guard? not sure how many there are but i need the one for the drivers side
cross member bolts x2 ( the two towards the back of the cross member & they are different sizes)

I think that covers it, i have everything else left over or i got new when i got the suspension yesterday. I just need a website that will have part numbers and size with pitch.

Please please please help me out, i'd like to have this thing driving in less than two weeks, my urges are killing me!

Maybe i'm just stupid (Which very well could be the case) but i can't for the life of me figure out how to get either of the programs to run. It keeps saying it was installed wrong and refuses to open. I've tried re-installing and nothing different happened, read all the "read me" files front to back and side to side and still for the life of me can't get it to open.

I ended up finding one that was browser based because i couldn't get the downloaded program to run. Thank you for all your help!
