Need new bottom end rebuild or shortblock?

i recently blew a rod and not sure if i should lean towards rebuilding bottom end or buying a short block.

Is there any holes in the block? IF the block is fine then I would do a rebuild. I know a buddy that tried just finding a used engine to throw in and he happened to get 2 junk engines in a row.

If you plan to make more power down the road why not just do it once and get an engine that will last at higher power level.

If that is the question your asking. I also am reading that you may want to tackle the rebuild yourself. I that case make sure you find a machinist that knows what he is doing.
