ok you guys i need your help.

so i was driving hard one day and started to smell something burning... i popped my hood and there was oil all over the place it seemed like it came out of the oil cap...

i know you all probably heard this before but ive tried almost everything and need help trying to find out where this leak is.. i went to one mechanic who said my valve cover needed to be replaced so i did that the next day it leaked again on a hard run. it seems like it only leaks/explodes when im at higher rpms or when i down shift while driving hard. anyways i brought it back he said that the seals needed to be replaced an wanted to charge me 1500 since i would have to take out the timing belt... i didnt want to spend that much so i brought it to this other mechanic which i trusted more only it was a lot farther away. he said that who ever did my valve cover didnt do it right and replaced it again. so after that my car leaked again, i brought it back he said it might be the pcv valve and the oil cap so i replaced those and leaked again but this time it went out the dipstick so i replaced that the car runs fine i havent realy tried to race the car since i was afraid that it might leak again.. i can drive fine if i shift after 4 - 41/2 rpms but i think if i hold the gear any longer it will leak again when i do drive it a little harderer now there a signs of light oil rings around the oil cap.. id probably go back to the mechanic and see if he could diagnose it but id rather see if i can find out the problem on my own before bringing it to the shop again and spending more money that i dont have right now... sorry for the long post but if you guys ever had this problem or heard about it and can help, your reply's are greatly appreciated. thanks

btw, my car is a 95 gst

Is your valve cover vented to intake or to atmosphere?

on my 94 the pcv valve stopped working at the track and i lost a quart of oil all over my engine comportment because the valve cover was vented to atmosphere...

check your pcv valve again, shake it back and forth if you hear the clunking then its ###### ok, if you clean it, blow into each side one side it will not go through otherside it will flow through

A quick, easy fix to the oil cap leaking, is to double up the cap gasket. Go to the dealer and drop $5 on another oil cap gasket. Place it on top of the old gasket to double it up. Your cap will be much harder to screw on, but it will stop any leaking coming from there. Also, check your chiltons or haynes manuals for the torque specs on the valve cover. Since it's only plastic, you can't over tighten it for risk of cracking it. However, if the cover is not tight enough, you'll leak from there as well.

Good luck!

The valve cover is NOT plastic. It's aluminum. But it's still prone to breaking if you torque the bolts too much, yes.
