I'm currently replacing my fuel pump and every article sais to remove the 3rd fitting from the bottom instead from the top. I'm talking about this fitting

not my car, just an example pic

Well, mine looks pretty rusty and I'm affraid that I'll strip the nuts if I go from the bottom. Should I ignore that they're rusted and try to get them off or should I go from the top? (is it really that fragile)

Using flare wrenches is pretty much mandatory if you want to get that fitting loose without stripping anything. I had 2 flare wrenches to get mine loose and it popped off no problem, mine's a '91 too.

i agree. I used flair wrenches to take mine off and i sprayed wd40 on it like 20min before. you have to take that off or you wont beable to get the pump out.
