Ok, well first of, my name is Eric and im only 17 years old so im starting to learn my way through cars and life. I recently purchased a 1995 Eclipse GS NON Turbo with a 99 motor from a 20 year old who from the looks of it, didnt take good care of it. This my first car ever so i dont know much. Ive looked around the forums to find out a little more info on the car. I know its a front wheel drive, a 4 cylinder, its a 2g but has a GSX front bumber on it and ive been looking around the engine bay soo i have a pretty good idea where most things are located.
So the problem is, i have little experience with cars and am low on money. I live in California where smog is a pain, so i went to get a test and it failed pretty bad on the emissions part. They said i should do a tune up and change the o2 sensor and clean the EGR stuff. So this is where i need help.
In a tune up i know i should change the air filter and change its engine oil and filter but what else?? and ive seen the o2 sensor infront, down on the headers but how do i change it?? So i want to just do the tune up myself and not pay for labor and also replace the o2 sensor, but i dont know how to do either of these things.
So could you guys please show me a write up or a link where it explains how to do a tune up on this eclipse and how to replace the o2 sensor and how to clean EGR stuff (perferrably with pictures and steps so i can understand better and not do something stupid). Ive looked around but havent found luck and most of u will probably say, buy the maintance book at autozone or something, but im low on cash and i cant right now because i want to use the money for this clean up and smog
