I finally ripped apart my motor today. When i bought the car there was a hole in the block. I pulled out a rod through the hole and the wrist pin was messed up. When i ripped the motor apart i took the head off. The piston (when it broke off the wrist pin) hit off the head and obviously the valves. I have a picture. The valves still seat perfect so my question is, is the head still good? In my opinion it seems fine, but i would like other opinions. Also another question, are valves suppose to be perfectly straight. For some reason all the valves have a slight angle on them, exept for two which are completely bent. (I'm thinking they are bent.)

That head sure took a beating. I would get it resurfaced and have the valve guides/seals replaced. Bending valves is very hard on the guides. The valves should be completely straight in regards to the face of the valve and the stem. If there is any question as to if they are bent, replace them. Other than that the head should be find so long as it's not cracked and can be resurfaced.

That is awful close to where the sealing ring on the head gasket is. I would have it checked for cracks and surfaced and see how it looks after that. Also if the valves were hit they are bent. Even a slightly bent valve is bad. Even if it still seals it is bad.

I knew the kid i bought the car from. He had freshly build it. He gave me a reciept for 950 just in machine work for the head. It was resurfaced and had new guides, valves, lifters, and cams. He drove it for about 15 miles and blew a piston out because he was running 25 psi on stock bottom end. The head gasket surface looks perfect. I know they are ferrea valve guides along with ferrea valves.

so you guys agree that it should be fine?

You can easily run 25psi on the stock bottom end. He probably cranked up the boost and didnt tune the car. :nono:

Get it resurfaced and make sure valves close. Easiest way to tell if the valves close is put the valves in and shine a flashlight around the valves. If you see light they dont seal. Also rotate the valves in the guides, if they feel like they are bindind they are bent. Or you can put the head completely back together turn it upside down put water in the valley's and use an air gun to blow through exaust and intake ports and watch for air bubbles coming out around the valves. If the valves are bent replace them. Also i would suggest lapping the valves. Trust me it helps. As long as there is no major major damage to the head valves and guides can be replaced. Trust me i have salvaged some of the worst looking heads you can imagine.
