need help on ofh

I just recently built a 1990 6bolt block which has the oil cooler OFH and want it in my 91 talon which also has another 6bolt.

As you all know or might, both ofh is different. Can I switch the 91 ofh and put it on the 90 block and the 90 ofh on my 91 block. Doing so I will have to switch my coolant pipe also b/c the 91 ofh require some water coolant to it.

They both will fit, just wondering if all the passage way on the ofh will be the same.

So the main question is, are the two ofh any different? Any problem also?

It will fit. Think of it like this, all 6 bolt front case/oil pumps are the same right? Even if the ofh is setup to be externally cooled everyhing else is the same. And yes you will have to do something with the coolant lines because the external is air cooled, like a mini radiator. Just swap em up and make sure to mount the external somewhere so air can hit it.

they are both 6 botl blocks so the OFH are interchangeable.

If it is a true 90's housing, it will have two provision for a Air oil cooler.

If it is a 91-92 OFH it will have an adapter for the water cooler on the oil filter side.

Sorry I forgot to include but I just put some used 3g lifters and shimms for my dks 272's on the head and install the head on the block. I bled all the lifters so I can pump it by hand. After the timing belt job, It just seems to be harder to turn the crank pulley by hand or 1/2 ratchet, is this normal?

Careful with sweeping statements like these. As posted, it is not correct. All DSM 6-bolt OFHs use the same bolt pattern and are physically interchangeable, yes. But remember there are non-turbo housings that have no cooler on them, the '90 turbo and '91-'92 turbo housings as described above, and Galant housings that have a different number of ports.

OP, remember that in addition to the line from the coolant pipe that runs to the '91+ housings, there is another pipe running behind the turbo to the thermostat housing. That will need to be changed, plugged, or looped, however you like to do it. To answer the question if the passageways are the same -- not necessarily, but that doesn't matter because within the individual OFHs, the oil enters and exits the same way. The inner workings are of no consequence here.

Thanks for clarifying. I will have my 91+ head and thermastat housing on the block as well so that'll plug right up to the rear hose to the ofh.
