I bought a head from a fellow dsm member on here.before I bought it he told me some of the valve seals were cracked and needed to be replaced.I told him that was fine,I was looking at the head today and I noticed that where the valve seal/stem pushes into the head it was cracked on the actual head.its like a collar that's inside of the valve spring.I don't really know how to explain it I cant take a picture cause my camera I broken.please help me figure out if my head is fixable.

That would be the guide. They are able to be replaced pretty easily. The valve seat and valve will need to be re-cut afterwards. You will also have to reset the valve stem height.

I don't understand how it can be replaced it looks like part of the head.the collar that's broken is what the little metal tube that guides the valve goes into.its all aluminum,I know the valve guide/seal can be removed but the collar that's broken is what goes around the valve guide.

Take a picture of what you are talking about. From what you described it is the valve guide. The valve seal attached to the guide.

. This is a guide.

My camera is broken.ok you know how you grab that guide you just posted and push it into the head?well on my head where you start to push the guide into the head, thats what's cracked on my head.

That is just the spring seat locator. It there is a small piece cracked out of it than it isn't a problem. That will in no way effect the valve seal.

O man thanks alot I was worried that it would affect the head in some way..there is a piece that is about to completely brake off.should I go ahead and just take it all the way off so I don't risk it falling off after the head is on and risk it getting into the oil passages

You should remove the spring and retainer and look a bit deeper, the "guide collar" for lack of a better term, Just does not crack.

If the guide was replaced and gaulled to the guide bore, you may end up sucking oil around the OD of the guide.

Now if the crack goes under the spring shim and into the pad, there may could be coolant leaking issues.

Personally, I would remove all the springs, retainres and spring shims and see if there is damage anywhere else.

The head has no springs,or valves.the head has already gone to the machine shop and was told that it would be fine before I bought the head.ill be taking it to my machine shop also to see if it good by my machine guy.its just the bare head so I clearly see the crack and its only on the collar

If it is only the collar, you should be fine.

What parts are you going to load the head with?

Yeaits just the collar that is cracked.the only aftermarket part that's going into the head is a set of mild cams that's it.my goal is only 330hp max and I don't think that's an issue for the stock head to make hp like that.so just cams
