I am a newbie to the dsm eclipse crowd. I do not actually have my eclipse yet but will in about 2 weeks hopefully. I have an 02 Galant that I am parting with to get a turbo eclipse. Anyways, I have been trying to do all my research before purchasing the car so when I get the car all the mods can start. Basically what I want is a daily driver that doesn't need built internals for the engine. I would like to achieve mid - high 12's on pump gas. I need you guys expertise and help with my setup and need you to let me know if this is realistic with the Eclipse. I have read quite a few threads and done some searches and have seen guys running times like this but I am not sure of all the mods they have. If you could help a newbie out with suggestions of what I need to do to get to my goal I would appreciate it. Basically the car will be stock so I will be beginning from scratch. I know that I will need an upgraded turbo, intercooler, exhaust, etc. Please let me know what other things are needed. I have been checking into the DSMlink for engine management. Would these be the right route to take for my setup or should I look into another type of engine management unit. Also I found this turbo upgrade kit with a T3/T4 turbo on ebay, does it seem worth it, or is it junk because the price seemed very reasonable. Click Here I appreciate anyone's help on this.

What about the kits that I showed from Ebay to upgrade the turbo? I need to know what turbo is recommended for my application because I am having a hard type deciding. I want to acieve the mid - high 12's for the quarter mile, but as I stated before, the car is going to be a daily driver, it won't see a lot of track time so I prefer it to spool up a little quicker instead of dropping a huge turbo for great track times. I have so far looked at the T3/T4, Big 16g, and I saw that Greddy had an upgrade kit with an 18g but I don't know if that is going to be too big for what I want. I also checked out the T28's and would like to know what are people's opinions on those. Thanks.

I know that I was recommended to look at the tuning guide and I have, and I pretty much know all the stuff I am going to need. So thank you for that information, but I basically was just asking what people's experiences and recommendations were for the turbo and engine management. For what I am trying to achieve should I go with a T28, T3/T4, or EVO III Big16g? Remember I would like to get into the possible mid to high 12's on pump gas but I want it to be more of a daily driver than a track monster. And I was trying to find out what was a better way to go for engine management, the DSMlink or AEM, or some other device. Please let me know. Thanks.

You are the right track already asking for help before spending your money. The mod path to that target is pretty simple and layed out for you.

1. Start with maintenance. Timing belt and accessories at 60k or if you are unsure of when it was done. Plugs and wires. NGK if you want my suggestion.
Check the recalls for the transfer case, fuel tank o-ring, and ball joints.

2. Basic power parts next. Hard intake pipe, basic K&N filter, fmic, hard pipes with a 1G bov, full exhaust (3'), fuel pump (150lph should be enough), 660 injectors, adjustable fuel pressure regulator......and port work on the exhuast manifold. Oh, your choice of boost control.

3. Turbo selection....stay simple and proven. 50 trim or 20G. Both can be had internally gated and work well with modern actuators and work well.

4. Fuel control.....DSMLink...nuff said.

IMO no. 20 psi by 3600 rpm is perfectly acceptable on a street car if you ask me. I guess it depends on who you ask though. A 50 trim has been my street turbo for years now and I wouldn't consider going with anything smaller if I had to do it over again from the start.

What mods did you have to get to fit the 50 trim (ie. manifold, o2 housing, etc), or was it a bolt on, and did you have to use an external wastegate?

Personally I would use a big t28 for street application because it has less lag than the 16g. Unless of course you want a little lag so you stay out of boost and get better gas mileage when the car is being daily driven.

Personally I wouldn't go bigger than a big t28 or 16g, but thats just me.
