Need help asap, what is the difference between 14b and 16g exhaust housings

Are they interchangeable. What are the differences? I might buy a big 16 with a welded flapper for an external wastegate. I want an internal gate so I am going for a different ex. housing. Can I replace it with a 14b housing with no downsides?

I'd like a bullseye housing but I'm kinda strapped for cash, the turbo is going to replace my dying 14b. That thing is 240 or something with the 38mm flapper. What are the advantages of getting a bullseye so I can weigh them against my money?
 
They are interchangeable. Bullseye is a better design, if you have the money.

If I were you, I'd go with this: NTDSMB16G5HwoTH for $429.

The all brand new Big16gG TD05H chra is fitted into a recontoured TD05H cover to give you the absolutely lowest cost option for upgrading you existing TD05H turbo. The bearing housing is a dry casting which means that you are free to eliminate the water connections to the turbocharger to simplify installation and R&R during those pesky HG swaps. The oil inlet thread is 12mmx1.25 to match all other DSM oil inlet threads, this means that whatever oil feed line you already have will work with this upgrade.

Q: Does this fit onto my old 14b turbine housing? Can I use my 14b actuator?
A: Yes to both. This will fit the stock 14b turbine housing and the stock actuator fits perectly

You could also try to find a used 16G or MHI EVO3-16G turbo in the classifieds. :thumb:
 
Thanks for the responses. What are the differences or are there any between the two housings? Isn't the 16g a 7cm opening to the manifold?

14b/T25 - 6cm, you can port your current one if it is not cracked
16g - 7cm
Bullseye - Bigger wastegate, less prone to cracking - which is why I said better design.

All DSM Turbine housings (except the EVO, which is made of a better material) are prone to cracks.

Stapl3 - Do you have any negative feedback on the bullseye housing?
 
The installation of the Bullseye housing is a royal pain, it uses a c-clamp like the comp. side instead of a v-band to mount the housing to the cartridge. This makes getting everything to line up a whore. It also means that if the turbo is used, you have to clean the surfaces and scrape off all the rust and stuff if you want it to fit together right. It also positions the turbo like 1/2" lower, so the oil and coolant lines don't line up anymore. Kinda defeats the point of a "stock-type" turbo if you've gotta do the same mods as you would to install a Garrett hybrid. For anything under a 20g, I don't think I'd bother. Would you do an 8cm Mitsu housing on a 16g? Probably not.

We recently switched from a TD05H/7cm 20g to a TD06H-20g with a Bullseye housing on Tort's car. So far, the car hasn't improved from it's best of 11.02 @ 126 on the 05H setup, but the car also has some low compression issues that we're sorting out. If the power doesn't pick up, we'll throw a 7cm housing on it and see what happens. Either way, I'll be sure to post an update when the car sees the track again.

To answer the original question, a 6cm housing from a 14b will work on a 16g, but you will be restricting top end flow with it. You can get a used 7cm dirt cheap these days.
