Moncton,
Hey guys,

Ive been surfing the site for awhile, and now i have a question.

OK, i know you guys look down on guys who talk bad about "ricers", so i won't.

But there are alot of cars around here who need to be put in there place, like some civics and a few 6 cylinder mustang's, and a few nicer cars with bad owners. so i wanna know which DSM i should get my hands on to put them back into there places, at the back of the line.

So i wanna know a GS-X or GS-T? These drivers around here have no idea what 2G Eclipses look like, or they think there just non turbo talons (cuz onlt talons where sold here on the east coast of Canada). So im looking for what car would be better so have?

Thanks guys,
Rob

well i can't speak as to putting anything in its place...but I prefer the TSI AWD Talon or the GSX Eclipse...the all wheel drive and an lsd, with a turbo is an amazing combination.

just go awd dude, there is no reason why u wouldnt go awd if u had the option, they dont even cost a lot more than the fwd models.

Ya u lose a little more power through the powertrain, but easily tolerable for how fast they are off the line. I mean if ur the kinda guy that likes to drive around and pull some random burnouts at times then a fwd would be good for that, but u could also show some car illiterate ppl that u dont have to be able to do a burnout to be quick. A lot of people around where i live pretty much judge the power of a car by how good of a burn out it can do, pretty lame.

Also if ur planning on getting a lot of power in the future it is a much better choice, u wont always have to swap slicks on when u race and u dont need to spend ridiculous amounts of money on high performance tires. If ur not planning on getting very much extra power, it would still be a good idea so later on if u change ur mind u'll be safe rather than sorry

To the point, FWD becomes a hindrance when you develop any sort of power, and luckily we were blessed with the option for an AWD model. Not many people will tell you to pass up AWD, and "drivetrain loss" is over-rated FWD bs.

I got a FWD before I knew much about cars and man do I regret it. Get an awd if you can!

i hear this a lot from fwd guys, i dont think ive ever heard it from an awd guy. theres nothing wrong with a fwd, they are still dsms and are still fast.. they are just a lot more of a pain in the ass to drive, and no matter what difference the fwd drivetrain loss advantage makes from a highway roll it will never be half as cool as a massive awd neck snapping launch :D :D

when i was searching for my talon, i wouldnt even look at the front wheel drive ones. Though i know plenty of guys with very nice fwd turbo dsms. But AWD launches..holy crap, that won me over. However it is true about the drivetrain loss..we do lose some power due to that.. but on the upside, traction is never an issue when you upgrade! :talon:

by oct I hope to have 300 FWHP LOL say goodbuy traction, it will be crazy on the highway tho,

less worries with breaking parts with a fwd

Im one of the weird people. I sold my awd and bought a fwd. Snapping your neck is not all the awd is going to do. It will also snap your axles, drivelines, input shafts, etc. I was sick and tired of dealing with the awd drivetrain braking ALL the damn time. Now that I have a fwd it feels so much smoother. Maybe because my awd drivetrain was always garbage. I dunno, Im happy with my fwd even tho it is the biggest bi*** in the world to launch. :p

Hahahah its not that bad, its when you go over 350 whp... :p and yeah, it does kinda suck, an d yeah I can do a burn out going 70 mph.... but hey.... Its fun, and Drive Train loss is not FWD BS, its reality, what people don't tell you is that you will need like 100 more hp than a AWD to run the same ETs..

My friends and I have a joke since I am FWD and they all own low 12 second GSXs, TSI AWDs... they all use Evo 16Gs, and I have my T3/T4 50 trim... They always say, Dude your car is so fast.... It has like so much hp.... I say hahaha yeah it is, it only took 100 or so hp to run the same ETs as you...

But then again I will rip them a new one from a roll...

And that plus it gives me something to look forward to doing...

Another thing you may want to consider is if you plan on driving this car in the winter. With our fine Canadian winters AWD is definitly nice to have ;)

Sometimes I wish I had a FWD Talon myself, the maintance can be hell on AWD vehicles..especially if it was beat before you got your hands on it.

Since you're in Canada, I'd go with an AWD model. If funds are limited, you can pick up a decent 1G and do a few mods instead of a 2G.

My 2g has treated me pretty well, FWD isnt all that bad, and if its your first "real" car ur gonna start messin with id say FWD...alot easier to do stuff on. But I must admit...once my FWD brings in a low 13/high 12...im getting AWD just to mess around on the street and stuff....
Either way though, choosing a DSM, you can't really go wrong...any turbo DSM with a good amount of mods and tuning done to it will toast most of the cars you mentioned...

Hey guys,

Thanks for all you replys. Im not overly happy with the change to the title because it makes me sound like i have no clue when it comes to cars. Well, maybe i had better be very specific.

I wanted to know from DSM owners what car is better to go to the track and put mouthy mustag, civic, and this one corvette owner back in place, where they have to worry about what they have to pull up against on your next drag.

Because they all feel that DSM's are slow and they all say that they SUCK!!!!!

Thats why i wanted to know. To show S#%t talkers that they have no idea what they are talking about.

Oh, and for who ever changed the title, I do have a life, mostly revolves around my TWO 40 hours a week jobs, So i can afford a GSX or TSI AWD(which i have to travel to the states to buy), And most of my spare time i spend working on my 97 Sunfire GT TURBO!!!
Ya i said turbo, T3/T4 Turbo kit from Explotied Racing.

And yes i think i will drive it in winter a little bit. (for those who thought to ask)

Peace,

Rob

PS: Thanks again for all you responces

Some are not overly happy with yet another mystery thread title along the lines of, " Need answer to a simple question?" How is anyone suppose to have a clue what that might be about?
Well, maybe i had better be very specific.
My undies moisten at the very concept. Somehow, asking over and over, and making it part of the Posting Rules bounces off posters' intellect like bullets from Superman's chest: "Use descriptive thread titles. Other members should know what the thread is about before even opening the message. If it's not descriptive, it's not worth reading." Some may argue that embellishing the title has done little to affect the latter portion of the rule.

Well, all good luck with that. I'd love to change the world too, but I get shit just for helping out a newbie with titling his thread.
Because they all feel that DSM's are slow and they all say that they SUCK!!!!!
Hmph. Might be former owners.
Thats why i wanted to know. To show S#%t talkers that they have no idea what they are talking about.
Ah. So, your keeping it an enigma wasn't really intended.
Oh, and for who ever changed the title, I do have a life, mostly revolves around my TWO 40 hours a week jobs, So i can afford a GSX or TSI AWD(which i have to travel to the states to buy),
You may want to reconsider your purchasing options. Then again, you may want to reconsider whether you have a life or not. Just my opinion, nothing says it's correct.
And most of my spare time i spend working on my 97 Sunfire GT TURBO!!!Ya i said turbo, T3/T4 Turbo kit from Explotied Racing.
Oh, my. I never suspected. I apologize. It's now clear to me. Keep your chin up, though. At least it can hardly get worse. :D
PS: Thanks again for all you responces
You're more than welcome. And, good luck. :thumb:
No matter how long I'm at this, I'll never comprehend why people try to make racecars (and more especially, dragsters) out of DSMs.

hey, if this dude lives in canada then how the hell is fwd beign considered!?!?!?

awd in teh snow !!!

eh - you'll break axles quicker - i have friends with high hp fwds that have bousted axles aff flush with teh tranny - not fun

well if you get a fwd you will learn how to drive better then justhaving traction all the time with an awd. if you learn how to get traction and launch the fwd are lighter. plus if your gonna highdrag a fwd will beat an equally powered awd.

But it wont get you to work in 3 feet of snow on a frozen february morning.
gotta love boston winters...

4x4life

its not drivetrain loss that is the problem its weight take and car an lighten a couple of pounds and it will be faster. yeah i know they launch good i have a tsi two. but well setting up suspension is critical on fwd. its like saying any car thats front wheel drive hondas and acuras that are modded right are not fast? people just jump to the conclusion that it is not rear wheel drive then its not fast unless its awd. ive seen plenty of front wheel cars in 11s and 12s. its about tires, pressure, suspension and driving skills. take two poeple one that always drives awd and one that drives fwd gst. if they were both put in the same fwd car. i guraunteed the fwd driver will win. its hard to get in a car with not much traction and try to get good times. i also have a supra turbo and that two takes skills becasue you can easily spin through two gears even with wide tires and rwd. hey its pref, whatever he wants he should get. and oh yeah i drive mine through winter pretty much with hills and mountains everywhere and my car kills the the 18 in storms. you gotta burn through the snow to hit pave then you hook up! hope you figure what one to buy either way they are both fun.
