halifax,
Ok, so i recently picked up a 92tsi with a T3T4 50 Trim with a cold side of .50 AR and a hot side of around a .63 AR 5 bolt exhaust flange.
Now for the bad part, the seals on the turbo are gone its smoking horribly in boost. and it has a tonne of shaft play.
it's going in the shop next week for a completely new engine which was built with wiseco forged pistons, eagle rods, cower stage 2 cams etc. so my question is, are there any good sites online that i could get an affordable replacement for this turbo? i really dont wanna spend 1000 bucks for one so if any of you have a good turbo that will work for sale could u please let me know what you have. or any good online dealers. thanks!

How bad is your current one messed up? Was there wheel contact on either wheel? You could have it rebuilt or possibly do it yourself and save some cash.

well im really not too good with this kinda stuff. i mean i installed a fmic on my old talon but thats it LOL.
when u take the intake pipe off there is a bit of watery oil kinda "whitish" in color.. and when u try to wiggle the turbo fins you can hear it making a clinking sound. I brought it to a friends shop and he said it has wayyy to much shaft play in it.

how much does it usually cost to get a turbo rebuilt? im not too sure of the actual brand of the turbo i think its an ebay one though because it has "m12" stamped on it. so it may not be worth fixing.

well its funny you mention that, because i was searching online but i dont know if i can use it with the exhaust manifold i have. i have an obx tubular manifold with a 5 bolt flange..and i have a tial 38mm wastegate.. i was thinking about an hx35 because my neighbors dad is i believe one of the general managers for atlantic canada Cummins... So i was hopin he could get me one for a good price. so if this can work please let me know what i have to do.

well I just need to know if that turbo can work on my current exhaust manifold/wastegate setup

so does anyone have this style turbo on a t3 5 bolt flange? with external wastegate
T3 refers to the turbine housing inlet, and there's no such thing as a T3 5-bolt flange. They are all 4-bolt. But, some T3 turbine housings have a 5-bolt discharge flange.

ok well obviously im not aware of this LOL like i said i dont know too much about this stuff.
so i know it has a 5 bolt exhaust flange. with the tial waste gate. so again, can this turbo work with this set up or would i have to change the manifold, wastegate etc

holset has t3 inlet and a different 5bolt pattern than garret. you could do bolt on housing if you still have you old manifold and o2 housing

So, lets be more clear on this.

You already have the turbo on the car, right?
If so, then you already have a T3 manifold, and 5-bolt O2 housing for it, right?

If so, then you can either have that turbo rebuilt, or you can replace it with a new unit. That style of turbo is a dime-a-dozen. I sold one a few years ago for around $400, just to give you an idea of what they go for used.

If your current turbo is rebuildable, that's always an inexpensive option. A rebuildable core should have no visible wheel damage.

Be sure to check your oil supply and drain system or you'll kill a new turbo in no time. If you're supplying the oil from the filter housing, you may want to consider a .062" (1/16") or .078" (5/64") restrictor to protect the turbine seal. Your oil drain should be free of kinks or sharp bends and never dip below the inlet fitting on the oil pan.

Send some pics to my email or PM me with pics of the turbo and I'll judge if it's rebuildable or not, and I'll give you a price quote if I feel it's worth fixing.
