Hey anybody know where can i get a new Acc belt tensioner pulley? (Other than dealer)
You know the one that tightens the a/c and power steering belt.
Mine is making all kinds of noise and when I checked it there was some play to it.

I've tried but around here they pull the engine off the car the moment it gets there
and the first thing missing is the tensioner pulley. And i was thinking to buy new just
so that i won't go bad a few miles down the road as well.

It had some play... So was it loose? Or just gone bad? Just wondering 'cause mine was like that and I just had to tighten that sucker. If not, good luck on your search! If you don't wanna go to the dealership... Try the Zone.. They can usually order it for A LOT cheaper than the dealer... True story by the way.

No I've tighten the belt all I could but it still moves around. The bearing is gone bad.
Found a site that stocks them for 144 plus shipping. Anyone know if this is good or bad?

Yes I believe it is. I'm gonna check just to make sure.
Thanks a bunch man you just saved me more than 100 bucks. :thumb:

When I used to have my GS I always went into the parts store and ordered my parts for a 1998 Dodge Avenger with the 2.0 liter 4 cylinder. Its the SAME 420a engine so 99% of the parts are interchangable! However for some stupid reason the parts stores don't realize the engines are the same?!?!? you would think the part numbers would crossreference, But I guess NOT.

And what's funny is 90% of the time they HAVE the part you need but they just don't know it haha.

I looked this same part up for a 1998 eclipse GS and they said there was NO available parts at this time. Then I searched for a Dodge Avenger tensioner and BOOM there is was LOL.

Sorry it took so long to respond guys but i got real busy working over the week end.
I checked my pulley and its different than the one pictured. Mine is more like an H as in
there are cavities on both sides. The bolt that pases through has a much larger head in
diameter so that particular pulley won't work. Guess the avenger got a different setup.

Man I bet its the same...Just go to the parts store and match them up. Sometimes they just use universal pictures when they sell these items. They 420a engine in the Avenger is Identical to the 420a in the Eclipse. I dont see why they would use a different pulley.

All of the adjustment parts of your stock tensioner will be reused....this is just the pulley and bearing. The parts store will let you return it if its wrong...I would just try it. :rocks:

man you have no idea how much trouble im going through right now with that tensioner....i cant step on it i have to do 2k rpm shifts because if i go higher it will rip....and ive ripped so many already ....and i also dont trust it need to go out of town and still figuring out on ### i should do...ive printed that pulley and part number imma head down to advance auto 2morrow and see if they can special order for me and if that doesn't work man i have no idea ### else imma do ill just try a smaller belt and delete that pulley and hope that will work...

I have the stock one of my car that you can have for whatever shipping costs. I believe I still have it in my parent garage somewhere. It has about 90,000 miles on it but still worked great when it was on. I since dropped my A/C so I don't need it anymore.

In the event that I choose to delete the tensioner what size belt would i need?
Anybody know?

Ok guys problem has been fixed! All for the astronomical price of 13.00 dollars. (ruffly)
I checked autozone and no go, they had the same deal with the hole assembly for 150.00.
So I crossed the border and went to a local auto parts store down there and they advised
me to get only the bearing and that they had it in stock. The bearing was less than 3 dollars!
Needless to say I was very pleased so i ask for the belt and a carb cleaner as well, all came
out to be no more than 13.00. Not a bad deal huh. :thumb:

Has anybody noticed how dodge could stuff a v6 in our engine bay? OMG

Can u say S-W-A-P!:D

Noticed this when asking for parts for the avenger and the people working always asking if it was for a 4 or 6 cylinder.

Haha yeah the old 2.5 liter....that engine is worse than the 4 cylinder IMO

You don't want that thing.

I have heard of guys doing that swap along time ago though. The extra wieght ain't worth it.

That's why the Avenger/ Sebring Hood/Front end is so long.

I need the bolt and bracket to adjust the tension on the pulley. Is that a dealer or salvage yard part only?

:heystupid: .... Man Just get rid of that Stupid Pulley! and get a smaller belt. and use your PS pump for tensioning the belt. thats what i did, i got tired of that thing tearing up my belts all the time. and it was a lot cheaper to take it off plus the bracket and buy a smaller belt:aha: and never had a problem since.

But if you rally want to know you can get anything you need at the junk yard! or if you have the $$$ the dealer could have it too??
