this may sound dumb but its what i'm doing, this will be my thread for documenting as well as asking a million questions because i'm a super noob. today we pulled the motor and took the head off. i'm swapping EVERYTHING from the 2g over to the 1g block that's possible. we are going to take the head to a local machine shop tomorrow to get checked, looks like the pistons slammed into the valves so i will be needing those. to my surprise the HKS cam gears came with the actual camshafts, wasn't expecting that because it wasn't listed when i bought it. the reasons for keeping the head its very nice looking, hks cams, roller rockers, crower springs and retainers. i had the NT block decked and bored EVERYTHING balanced, and im putting in wiesco forged pistons. also eliminating balance shafts.

check out the "holy block"

from what i was told the previous owner knew the motor was knocking and was going to go out, so he turned the boost up and was hitting around 30 psi. i'm glad he did because i got this car for a steal with all the parts.

feel free to comment and i will have MANY questions i'm sure once we start swapping parts over

thanks John

First comment is to upload your pictures here instead of imageshack, photobucket or putfile because those always end up with the picture missing just like yours is now and none of us can see to make a real comment :D

Fix the pic though, i'd like to see what you're up to! Then some of us might be able to offer some insight and help along your way. When you're posting just scroll down to "manage/upload photos", browse the folders for the pics you want, select them and hit upload. The hosting here is actually really nice compared toa lot of forums i've been on.

i accidently deleted it last night, will fix.

ok so one quick question that would really help.

we are planning on using the 2g turbo front oil case (not sure if thats exactyl what to call it) and one of the swap directions says you need the 1g pan but it looks like the 2g case goes past the block and the oil pan is curved? so will i be able to use the 6 bolt oil pan with the 2g case? or should i get a 1g turbo front case?

thanks alot

well now it looks like the 2g case wont work with the 1g oil pan. so would it be better to buy 1g oil case to go on the block in order to work with the oil pan or just modify the 2g oil pan??

really stuck and need an answer

thanks

ITS not just the oil pan stopping you from using a 2g front case on a 6 bolt block. some of the Oiling Galleys are different and also some of the bolts holes don't line up. Why don't you just build a complete 6 bolt and do the swap.

because the 2g parts are newer and turbo. i would have to buy all new parts to use 1g stuff. modifying the case isnt the problem, we are also using the 2g head i dont care if its not what you would do. the head that was on the car has at least $1200 in it.

it was directed at an oil case situation (forget it now). my build is on hold right now because i have to mail the 6 bolt oil pan back and buy a 7 bolt. and pay the machine shop $300+.

will be back

Well what else do you need to know? That road race engineering link tells you all you need to know about using the 2g crank sensor on a 6 bolt.

Do you have a specific question??

so to clear this up the big difference is i am using a 6 bolt NON turbo. and there are some differences between the NT and Turbo blocks, thats what i was trying to figure out. its not JUST the 6 bolt swap. honeslty i dont need anyone to post a link sending me somewhere. i just wanted to clear up a couple questions and if he links worked i wouldve already found them! i searched forever jus seems like the NT swap is rare.

i apologixe if i came off as a dic, i was just stressing over what was going on:banghead:

heres my update after idk how long! but we got all the bs worked out and it was running good for the break in, as im going to work 20 min into the drive the HG blows. short story long when using the NT Block a MLS Headgasket is a MUST. and another thing this is my first DSM and it has me hooked:rocks:

one problem i noticed which doesnt happen all the time is when i turn my headlights on the idle starts to drop and starts to chug almost cutting off. this just adds to my funked up idle, seems like it only idles when it wants to?? idk if it has anything to do with the 272 cams but its annoying:ohdamn:
