There is a ground wire underneath the car it seems like right underneath the ECU or dash. It comes from inside the car to the outside and grounds to the underneath frame anyone know if this wire is important and what it is for? If you look it is easy to find mine are cut on all 3 1G DSM's. I dont know how to post a picture on fourms

PS: located behind the front firewall underneath the car. - That is the end of the wire anyways.

Under the car? -The only thing I can think of is the factory exhaust ground... That's about 3/8" think SS braided, un-shielded wire. Normally, it has round eyelets that bolt it on to the subframe & the factory exhaust's heat shield.

It's a good thing to keep on there as it serves as the chassis ground for your exhaust system.

No I don't think that is the same one I wish I could figure out how to put a picture of it up. It comes from the interior of the car to outside and grounds to the underneath of car.

It is on the driver’s side of the exhaust. Anyone know what it is to?

I believe it`s an ehxaust ground strap, used to ensure a good ground path for the oxygen sensor(s). To answer your question, I think it`s supposed to connect to the exhaust system somewhere . . . :talon:

My 2g had a ground strap from the same general area that bolted on right where the down pipe bolted to the cat. It was old and frayed so i pulled it off when i did my 6 bolt swap and just added a bunch of ground wires through out the engine bay, but never hooked one back to the exhaust.

It could be coming from a number of things. Remember, your entire car has something grounded to it from somewhere. Hell, sometimes even your engine block is grounded to the frame or body. Pull out service manual, look at wiring diagrams and locations. Specifically "Ground Locations". Finding the ID of the ground will be more useful in finding the source. Or unhook it and see what doesn't work.

yes its the stock exhaust ground strap it should be bonded onto your exhaust then bolted to the chassis i have full stock exhaust and thats what it is

That's the third time at least, now are you going to believe one of us? We all have DSm's too. LOL not trying to be a d!ck, but after having a bunch of them up on lifts i know where that goes. That should secure to one of the bolts on the cat to DP flange at the exhaust. That's it. I think there's only one other strap like that on the 2g and it's from the motor to the firewall. I'm pretty sure the 1g is the same if not having less grounds
