Mysterious Button Mishap

Alright so I picked this car up last week, and my brother was looking at it and he seen this button. Either out of curiosity or pure assholeness he pressed it and now i have to hold the switch down along with the clutch to start the car. We've pressed it in again, but nothing happened. It's like its stuck on.
Anybody know how the hell to disable this thing?

It's probably something to do with an aftermarket alarm.

It could be for a alarm, kill switch or to turn fans on. You have to tell us whats it wired to?

I'm trying to upload a picture of the the alarm box its wired to, but i believe its wired to a Code Alarm 3100. I've read the manual but nothings working.

Guess no one will know until you follow the wires back to find out what they're connected to under the dash.

Looks like an alarm switch to me. Does it go to a little black box under the dash somewhere?

My old alarm. Had a similar button and to get mine to run and start properly I had to unlock the doors with the key ....

The key won't unlock th doors now though.

Also tried unplugging everything to try an reset it... Didn't work.

I hate aftermarket alarms. When I buy a car with one, the VERY first thing that I do is remove it.

If you are having issues with this one I would suggest that you do the same.

The actual key won't lock/unlock the door when you turn it

Yeah the actual key will not turn and unlock the doors, but it will open the hatch and start the car.

Jwp-me and my brother have read that thing inside and out and nothings working . Thank you though.

In my opinion, rip out the aftermarket alarm system. They are usually nothing but trouble.

Thanks for that. You provided so much input into figuring out the switch actually does by stating to "stay in school." That will simply solve everything, as long as everyone stays in school we will never have another problem with our DSM's according to 95AWD6Bolt.

Anyways the switch you got there could be a normally open push button or a normally closed push button.
You should ohm it and find out what the switch does.......... if you press it and the resistance increases and you let go and the resistance is still high, its a NC switch and if it does the opposite its a NO switch. Find out which is beneficial to you, have it closed all the time or open. Then rip the switch out and twist wires together or tape the ends up.

The button doesn't really stay down. It just pops right back up.

Take some pb blaster Teflon spray an spray inside your locks a few times. Then insert key and try to turn slowy so you don't bend or break anything, you may have to spray a few times. Should free things up if not take the door panel off and see what's going on. Also if you want unplug the clutch peddle switch, which most of us do anyway. This way you can start the car without pressing clutch in and it's less stress on things. Just make sure you remember to keep it in neutral.

I'm pretty sure the reason your key isn't working in the doors because your aftermarket alarm is sending a signal to the lock/unlock relay holding the locks. My wife's 95 was doing the same thing.

I removed the system as others have stated and was over it. Then I installed another one. She really likes the remote start feature.

Remove the alarm as stated.. Follow the wires it's connected to, and where you see it "splitting" a wire (like a green wire from the car that is cut in two connecting to two wires on the alarm.. connect those types together and the rest that are probably tapped or T'd into other wires can be cut and insulated.

And a note about grammer and general process of the forum, you'll find proper grammar is a big one around here, I'm often guilty myself for both a borken keyboard and somenerva damage and sometimes just pure tired and lazy, but expect repremand for it one way or another, as it's in the forum's "rules" we're all supposed to read and agree to abide by when registering. And probably the fact that just asking for a button's purpose and function without tracing it to give people an idea of what they're trying to help you with is the type of thing to annoy some people as it shows a desire to be spoon fed instead of trying to problem solve a situation on your own and then ask for help. NO offense but we get THOUSANDS of posts where people provide the worst background info you could imagine then get mad when people want moreinfo to help them out.. Another one is when people ask if something will work and after being told "no" they continue to argue why they think it should work hoping that they will magically change facts and argue their way into making something do something it can't.

This is what I was thinking. The button engaged this but now, I can't figure out how to disengage it. We haven't found another secret button and unplugging the system simply doesn't undo it.
