So I have never ever noticed my 420a smoke before today. I was sitting in the car while it was parked idling and noticed some smoke. Yep, it was me. Not real thick or anything, but enough to were I noticed.

Now, like I said, I have never noticed this before. Now I saw no blue tint to it. It seemed more whitish. However, I checked the oil and saw no signs of coolant/oil mix. I will double check and change my coolant tomorrow.

Anyways, there is this tapping/clicking type sound I can hear every now and again. Having a hard time pinpointing it. Is there some type of emissions valve or something that could be going out on me and cause some smoke?

1 more thing. I did notice I was low on oil. Down to the minimum line. Could being low on oil cause some lifter sticking situation or anything like that.

Thanks a million guys! I am just stumped here being that I have NEVER noticed my car smoke before. Compression test maybe? And what specs do I need to be in for a healthy motor?

Was the color of the smoke a nice thick white? Or was it more like a "thin" smoke? How long did this last for? Did this happen right when you turned on the car. If so (smoke was a very light white almost unnoticable) then most likely it was "morning dew" or water in the tailpipe and it was just simple steam making its way out.

You know I like that description. It was like a "thin" white smoke. However, it seems like it came more towards after I idled for awhile more than when I first started the car. Besides, it was towards like 3 pm and it was like 90 out.

If a headgasket is starting to leak it will enter the combusion chamber and burn off in there and exit the exhaust without getting in the oil. First should have checked the coolant. Next best idea is to pressure test the system to see where the leak could be.

I have the same problem with my car, though my theory remains unconfirmed because i havent gotten a jack under it yet. (she sits low:cool: ) anyway, its diagnosed as a leaky oil pan gasket. whats happening is oil is dripping down, and wouldnt ya know it, the exhaust pipe is stuck right under the leak, so whats happening is when the car isnt moving, you see the smoke from the oil dripping then burning on the downpipe and cat making an embarrasing smog..

hope this helps, hope its not a head gasket

Thanks guys! Ya I too hope its not the headgasket. It didn't seem to smoke any at all yesterday that I noticed. That is why it has me stumped. That and I have something that is making a noise on me. Something is on its way out. A bearing to something or a EGR valve or something. I guess I will just have to play it by ear.
