Well first off I built a box a while back and I made it on stilts so it would go over the spare tire hump in the back. I got tired of two things. One having no space in my trunk to put anything at all... and two the box was made of MDF, took up the hole trunk and was way to heavy to move when I needed to say change a flat on the side of the freeway.... Or take it out when we go on a trip so there is room for stuff... So I built this! Just thought it was a cool project and it still hits hard!

I did this on a couple of lunch hrs and with free fall off wood from work so its not my best work but oh well...

Next I will have to attempt carpeting!

I like that design better than the one I currently have:

I might look into changing mine since I am running just 1-10" sub. O made a compartment for my spare so I could lose the carpet. Then covered it with vinyl. The speaker just resides in the small triangular area at the right, the rest is open for the Amp(s) and spare/jack. I still use the rear package shelf/cover so it all stays hidden.

I would suggest at least making the subs each have their own separate chamber.

I really like it :thumb:

I've been wondering how I'm gonna get my sub box to sit properly when I ditch my spare and I think I'm gonna try a reverse version of yours.

Yup I left the top removable (no wood glue) so that I can separate the air space later. I was worried about having enough air space that is why I added the kick out at the back that goes up to the top of the seats! and they lock into place just right too! also going to stuff a little more batting in there. I thought about ditching the spare until I was going down the freeway and had a blow out... Thirty miles from home and that would have sucked to have no spare! I decided to use ply wood to keep it light enough to move around if needed.

Thomcasey, I really like how clean that looks! How does it sound? were you able to get enough air space to run a ten and have it sound good?

Yes, the 10 only needs .75cuft, it has .76. It hits real hard. I went single 10" because it allowed good bass response without being overwhelming.

I will be making a new box that fits tighter along the edges, with a removeable panel for spare access only. Plus I might experiment with the way the speaker is mounted, so it can be much harder to see without the package shelf.

I am also toying around with sealing up the compartments behind the rear 6x9's and running 6x9 subwoofers in there so the box can be tossed entirely.

I did away with the spare completely. It's not my daily driver so I figured what the heck. Thats what AAA is for anyways right? :hellyeah:

Since then, I have replaced the entire interior with the grey, I couldn't stand the calf puke tan color. :barf:

I like your box design because you were still able to keep your spare. Good work!

Nice work! I like that set up! Just gotta have my spare though... i is my daily driver and I don't have AAA.

I faced the tens up because they are to tall with the spare to face the rear, and I wanted to keep my spare... And it actually sounds very good that way.

Yea, notice how I have mine facing upward, we think alike.

I was at a car audio show and a guy had two 18" subs that were about 4" from the rear hatch glass of a 2g, also facing upward, and they slammed!

I guess the sound waves bounce off the rear hatch nicely!
