Thought I would post what I did on my balance shafts and see what you guys think. I'm not sure if you guys have even seen this before but I'm a bit different so here is what I did.

The description is in order of the pics below...

1)Here is the stock BS shaft and oil pump

2)I cut the front lobe off the shaft

3)Put it in the lathe and ground it down perfectly

4)I then shaved off the seond lobe between the oil pump and the first bearing surface so there is no imbalance anymore

5)This is what it looks like afterwards.

Basically no balance shaft anymore but a small light weight shaft that runs from the oil pump to the first bearing surface. I did this as this shaft is perfectly balanced so it supports the oil pump right to the first bearing surface of the old balance shaft setup so there is no small shaft spinning around unbalanced off the end of the oil pump.

Here is the new small shaft inside the block hooked up behind the oil pump. (the shiny silver thing at the bottom of the pic for those not sure what they are looking for)

I saw a webiste that sells shafts just like that but it has been along time and I cant remember the site. I have heard that it helps with the longevity of the oil pump becasue the gears have more support so they keep a more constant mesh. Good work and nice write up.

I was wondering if anybody had made up anything like this before. Should be interesting to see how it works.

Just for an update. I have 500miles on the motor now and it runs really well. There is a bit of shakeing that was not there before, but it's pretty small and you almost don't even notice it. Seems to be good so far. We'll see how it works out over a really long term...
