My new car 1996 gst for $1200

well today i got my first dsm a 1996 eclipse gst bright red for $1200!!!!!!! which is awesome considering i have receipts for it that add up to $6k!!!! yes yes i no alot of people will hate me that i got a beautiful car cheap. We got it started with a new battery. Also the throttle linkage was loose and wouldnt allow the car to start fixed that. My dad drove it home and noticed alot of white smoke under moderate acceleration. But then again the car has been sitting since November 2003. There was a slight knock which by the time we got home was a pretty mean sounding knock that occurred alot more often than when we first started the car. If anyone has an idea of what it is let me know. We are gonna take the engine apart tomorrow if we figure out what it is ill let u guys no. We think it may be a bad bearing.

No they were a community credit union who repoed the car and they were told it had a blown motor. Well we showed them when we drove the car away

That rod's gonna do a John Wayne Gacy to the crankshaft within 500 miles.

well we found out what was wrong. we spun a rod bearing. we are just gonna replace em and if they go out later, then we will tear the engine apart and do it right, but for now my dad figures just do it the cheaper way. I said ok as long as he is gonna do alot of the tearing apart if it does break down. and i said that he'll have to come pick me up at 2 o'clock in the mornin . its all good. Its a really good engine only has at the max 20k miles. new turbo and rebuilt tranny with a perfect body, doesnt get a whole lot better. Remember we bought it thinking it had a blown engine, we got a better deal than we thought. Thnx for the help guys.

well while your there look at the rod bolts make sure that one of them isnt loose scaring the cyl wall. Its a bi*** but throwing a rod bolt has happened to two people i know. The sound SUCKED but the car still drive. I would imagine that they would not have been able to drive it for that long though

well we decided to pull the engine. After a lot of time taking parts off we've got it stripped down...Diagnosis the rod bearings we replaced were tore all to hell which is horrible considering we barely drove it. Also my crankshaft is shit. Not to mention i need a new rod. Its all good tho, we've ordered alot of new parts and should have it together somtime arouond august. Thnx for all the help guys.

i kinda doubt it has 20 K on the engine if it's on it's least breath.....

$1200 seems an OK deal for a person that can do all the necessary work himself...Hopefully you dad is a cetrified mechanic and car order all the parts at cost!

1200 for that body is a steal. I looked for my 2g body for about 6 months and all I coudl find was a hail damaged 160k mile talon tsi. Well, I bought it for 900 because I wanted one, and this is all I could find in six months. It was easy to swap an engine in, just working out bugs now.

No i know for sure that it didn't have a whole lot of miles on it. Ive got a reciept for the work and it couldnt have had a whole lot of miles put on it. Also the car was repossessed. It is possible that the guy purposely put something into the car to ruin it becuz he was pissed about having it possessed. Either way a running 96 gst with no body damage for $1200 is one killer deal.

actually the owner probably didn't even know whn it was repo'ed. Once you stop paying bank contacts repo servicwe and they take it during the night usually, no notice, warning,etc. They just take it and contact the poice that it has been repo'ed vs. stolen. So the chance of the owner doing something to it prior to it being repo'ed is slim to none...
