My ignition

I was driving down the road today and my car started to smell like antifreeze and gas mixed together and my revs just dropped down to 0 but the car stayed on for a sec if that makes any sense. I pushed in the clutch and braked to stop in a parking lot. I checked all of my fuses under my hood and found a fuse that was out. It was in that little box that connects to your battery( i have a 1.8 ). The wording on that box is wearing off and im pretty sure that whatever was making that smell caused a short because I replaced the fuse and the new one blew out as soon as the car started. I was wondering if anyone might know what the heck that little fuse is for or what could have caused the short that blew both fuses. Please help me out as soon as possible I have things to do tommorow. Thank you.

describe the location of the black box and maybe someone can chime in with which fuse it is and you can start there.

It is a little black box with 3 fuses in it that is connected to the positive cable right off the battery and one of them is a 20A and the others are 30A fuses. The 20A fuse is the one that blows when the car starts. Someone please help me out this is my only vehicle for now unless someone knows where a 17 yr old can borrow $1000 so that I can buy a 91 Laser RS.

Well, I gave up on searchin for a short so we called a guy and he came out to my house with a computer, hooked it up, and told us that it was the fuel pump and when we took a look at it he was right. Im lucky that I am even still alive today, the wires are all coroded and crap and it was a gas leak and electrical short at the same time. I am a lucky man.
