Hey guys, I'm brand new to this forum and the turbo dsm world in general. I just got my first turbo car which was a '97 gsx with a couple things like evo 3 16g turbo, hks ssq bov and a few others. Now I've searched this forum the best I can for a thread to answer this question but I've found none. I admit I'm a huge newbie and would really like some tips and advice on how to take care of my car, being that its my first turbo car. What to/not to do? What to keep an eye out for? Things like that, I am trying my best and have done loads of research and there's no better help than from true "DSM-er's". I'd really appreciate the help guys.

Here's a list of what it has to help, help me:
255 lph Walbro Fuel Pump
3" Turbo-back Exhaust
660 CC Fuel Injectors
Ingalls Camber Kit
Front Mount Intercooler
GReddy Turbo Timer
HKS SSQ Blow Off Valve
Manual Boost Controller
Optima Battery - Brand new
Super AFC II Computer
Tokico Blues Shocks/Struts and Springs – lowered 2”-3”
Upgraded EVO 3 16G turbo
130k miles!! <<Yikes

Thanks, Alex

Routine oil & filter changes, check/get the ball joints checked, buy a Haynes or Chiltons repair manual(they have a troubleshooting section for any odd noises or oddly functioning things)
and from the tech guide:

"So you want more power out of your 2G turbo DSM? Make sure you learn a few things before making some common "noob" mistakes. DSM's have a reputation of going fast for cheap. But they're regularly neglected and have gained an unfair reputation of being unreliable. Most "noobs" want to spend all their money on go-fast parts and put no money or effort into maintenance. Don't be one of those people. Do your maintenance and don't start modding until all the necessary maintenance is done. Otherwise you're just asking for trouble.

The first thing you need to do is a complete tune up. Replace all worn belts, including the timing belt and balance shaft belt. If the timing belt/balance shaft belt haven't been replaced within the last 60k miles, or you're not sure when they were last changed - change them now. If they break, you'll be paying for a cylinder head rebuild (not cheap). You'll also want to change out all filters, fluids, worn hoses, spark plugs/wires, and worn/leaking gaskets. Check the compression, do a leak-down test, check your ignition timing, etc. Basically, do all of the checks that your repair manual tells you to do - you do have a repair manual already, don't you? If not, pick one up now before moving forward with any modifications."

Thanks Reviver and yeah, don't worry. Although its my first turbo dsm, I've done a load of research and know better to run to my wallet before my book. Thanks a load Aceman, that's exactly the help I asked for and needed. I will be sure to be on top of each of those things, along with the whole "being religious" about oil thing. I'm here to learn all I can and keep a clean, strong 4g63. Thanks again guys and I now know I've come to the right forum. :thumb:
