Hi everyone! Hope all is going good.

So. My wife has a 94 GSX 5 speed. She wants to move on. She wants to trade the car in but I think I am going to give cash as the down and keep the car as a project.

This car is eating oil. I dont see any major leaks and when you get above 5-6k RPM black smoke comes out the tail pipe. It also seems that this turbo is having problems because it is starting to spool slower and slower.

I was wondering if a ebay "kit" would be a good replacement turbo kit.

looking at this item

Also, the oil return line from the turbo to the pan broke a couple months back. I replaced that and found one of the bolts on the pan was striped out. What is the best way to fix that issue?

This car already has a big 16g with J pipe. stock exhaust manifold. Would the ebay "kit" be a easy swap?

thanks for everyone's time!

I just fixed my stripped bolts yesterday. I had to drop the oil pan and retap the bolt hole one size up.

It was a project.

You live real close to me, I technically live in centennial. Im down to lend a hand, If you need a replacement turbo I have a spare 14b I could sell you cheap. Id be willing to take that blown 16g off your hands.

We could work something out :) and the help would rock!

I live 1 street away from Aurora. I am near smokey hill and 470.

I'd honestly get the factory turbo rebuilt before putting Chinese eBay trash on there and hoping that it lasts. Figure your original lasted 18 years- no way in hell is an eBay replacement is going to hold up like that.

Rebuild is not a bad idea. Might look into that. I am going to start looking at the market place and see if i can find a big 16g or evo turbo for drop in.

Would also like to replace the stock manifold when doing the turbo. would this one work?

how does the stock manifold flow? any reason to spend hundreds on a upgraded one?

Doh, correction, the car is a 95. has the 6 bolt swap

The stock manifold flows ok. For an upgrade I would get the forced performance manifold before a tubular model. Sometimes they have sales where you can get it for about 175 too. This will probably hold up a lot better and perform better too.

Forced Perfomance DSM Manifold

As for the turbo, Justin (Jusmx141) is a pro. I would take any advice he can give. Maybe he can rebuild your current turbo? If not 14B's are extremely cheap and not as hard to find as the Evo16g's. Sometimes you can find a small/big 16g in the classifieds here for not too much cash. The demand for 16g's lately though has made the price go up.

If you are going to keep it as a project you coud always read up about the 20g turbo. They are pretty cheap as well and pack a little more of a punch than the 16g. I don't have first hand experience with them and their fitment though. So I would research what would be needed to install it in your setup. But if you can't find a 16g you like I would expand your search to a 20g.

Depending on the turbine housing it uses, yes a 20g will bolt to a stock 2g manifold and o2 housing. Without supporting mods though i wouldn't even consider it.

Car currently has Intake, FMIC, 2.5 exhaust with no cat(s) upgraded BOV (greddy i think). Block is rebuilt about 20-30k miles ago.

you think i would need Fuel and EMS before i go 20g?

What if i went 20g with only 12lb boost until fuel and EMS is installed?

I don't have enough experience with that turbo to know what psi would be ok with stock fuel. I think 12psi might be a little too much for the stock fuel pump because that turbo flows a little more than 16g's.

You would probably just need a Walbro 190lph and some slightly larger injectors. Of course if you have to get injectors you will need something to tune with so you can control them.

You at least have room to grow if you go that route. But if you just want a running car now: 14b/16g
