Ok i recently sold my 97 galant and got a 97 Gst auto(can't stand auto). Ever since i got the car, if its been idling for a while u will see bluish smoke come out the exhaust and sometimes upon start up, i just had a tune up done, including fuel filter, plugs, and plug wires and this didn't seem to help anything but gas mileage. I just ordered an intake off ebay, im hoping that maybe the car needs to breath a little more. I just wanna know if anyone else has experienced this and maybe a clue as to what else it could be? the car runs good wit no hesitation and the turbo works great (gonna check for shaft play just in case when i install the intake)
Any input on this would be highly appreciated, thx! :dsm:

blue smoke means your burning oil, my friends gsx does that and we are going to rebuild his engine this winter, after check your turbo for shaft play and see if its slinging oil, if it isnt that you should do a compression dry then wet to see if your rings are worn. it could also be that the valve guides are worn and leak a little

ya sure its blue and not white ?
ya could also be burning coolant -
at either rate if its that bad , u should notice one or the other fluid levels going down.
damn near 80% of dsm's consoume oil - depending on how bad you are, its prob not that big of a deal, just somthing you should keep and eye on.
do a compretion test while your in there playing around.

Check if your UICP is soaking wet (a lot) of oil. if it is your turbo is leaking.
If is not well might be the piston rings! :(
Sorry! hope that help. And welcome to DSMTUNER!!!
Enjoy DSM are great cars!

Ok so i pulled the UPIC pipe off by the elbow of the throttle body, and it had some oil residue in there, it didn't seem like alot of oil, but i don't know what you would consider alot of oil in the pipe? Also i been checking my oil and it hasn't gotten lower or anything so i don't seem to be losing oil and if i am then its going down very slowly cause i haven't lost any oil in the past 3k miles i put on the oil(i got synthetic so i can go to 5k)

No? Even though the owner's manual says to, with the oils that were available 15 years ago?

Just for reference, CHP runs oil (non-synthetic) 8K in the cruisers.

I dont know, I just wouldnt. Its been done at 3k for the last 50+ years, and has worked fine. It's not like its a big job either. Going once or twice to 5k? thats fine, but I usually like to stick to 3k. :thumb:

Likely its your valve guides are worn out, welcome to high milage cars.

I am a firm believer of the 3k oil change in turbo cars. Every time I change my oil it looks rather dark and nasty from the heat of the turbo and I am sure that this is a common thing with most of us.

As for puffs of blue smoke, yea mine does the same if the car sits for a while or idles for a long time. But the consumption is very small, about 1/4 qt per 3k miles.

OK thx alot for the input guys, i get me intake in next week, i'll check for any shaft play or anything. Also, i bought an ebay intake with all the recircualtion tabs and stuff, will this make the turbo sound any louder or anything, cause my t25 spools pretty damn loud and i was just wondering if it was just my car or if all the t25's were like that?
