So I'm repainting my engine bay and i was wondering if I need to keep that firewall blanket thing on?

I was gonna rattlecan it and wanted to know how many cans I would need. It says 1 can can do a 6 by 6 foot square.

all the stuff in red is what I wanna paint. Will 1 can do it?

Lol I took mine off, it was flaking away and smelled really bad and was ugly. Same goes for the inside one and all the tar vibration deadener, and exhaust sheilds.

Haven't got to drive the car so I can't tell you what the noise / heat is going to be like.

Besides I see the blanket as a fire hazard anyways.

Make sure you take off all the brakes, master cylinder, resistor box and all the other stuff off the firewall. Just tape off the wiring harness and brake lines or pull them too. Nothing looks crappier than over spray all over everything.

I would venture to say 4 cans would be enough if you want to coat it 3 times then I would get 2 cans of clear to coat is 2 times to make it look really good.

i started doing mine with spray paint went trough about 6 cans before i decided to change the color i was doing and bought a gallon of automotive paint. but 6 cans made it trough all of the firewall and the sides, if you want to do the hole radiator bracket or anything else figure on about 8 - 10 cans. better to have more than you need than run out half way though your project.

Yeah, about 5-6 cans of paint and 2-3 cans of clearcoat will do it. Just remember, you get out of a paint job what you put into it. The more time you spend preping the engine bay, the better the job will look at the end. Tape off everything that you don't want overspray on, and clean everywhere the paint will hit. It doesn't hurt to use a scotchbrite pad to scuff up everywhere you can get to. Good Luck! :)

I'd just buy 8 cans and 2 cans of clear, as for the firewall insulation take it out....it will look much cleaner. Also as said above.. prep is everything. The better you prep the surfaces. the better your job will turn out. Keep us posted and good luck.
