I bought my car last friday and about 12 miles away the Check Engine Light came on, so i went to a friends shop and used his code scanner and it showed tps sensor was the problem. So i figured it just needs to be adjusted. Well i read all the threads on here about the TPS and found from a coupl users it will cost me about 20-30 dollars from Mitsubishi to get it adjusted back into spec.

SO i drive there and tell him i have a check engine light and it was diagnosed as the TPS sensor and i just need you guys to adjust it back into spec please. He says well first i need to get one of my guys to diagnose it, it will cost you 78.50 for us just to look at it. WHAT! 78.50 to tell me the same thing i just told you. Then another 20-30 to fix it. I told him it has been diagnosed and i have no need to pay for it twice. He said we dont do that hear, we dont work on any car until it has been diagnosed. I told him that was ridiculous and said no thank you and left.

Im a pretty smart guy, ive been a honda boy forever and been owrking on hondas for the past few years. I understand how to adjust it but i dont have a manual for my eclipse.
I understand that i loosen the two screws and hook ip up to a multimeter and adjust it accordingly. Well what else do i need to know? What wires am i getting my reading from? ETC ETC
If anyone can help me out please let me know. Thanks

IF not, im thinking of calling the head at this mitsu dealership and moaning and complaining until i get it done without paying the 78.50.

Thanks
Patrick

Tell you what, I have done mine myself once, then not trusting my own abilities I decided to bring it to the dealer, it has been there twice now for the TPS, let me know if you get it fixed once and for all, and if so what happened, this seems to be a common problem. I hate that TPS...really hate it....

How much did you pay at the dealer?

I paid the $78.50 or so the first time, all work after that is under their warrenty, on the TPS that is. Like I said let me know how it goes for you, my light is still on. New part and adjusted more times then I care to count.

Some of the 1999's had a ECU update that needed to be done if the car kicked a TPS code. Do some research and if you don't find anything I'll look through my bulletins for you. They are in the shed and it is raining like a mo fo here.

John

Yeah that would be great if you could find that, I bet that is what it is then..hmmm..is there a place to search for those?

I called my dealer last night and told them, the customer service rep. I talked to was going to forward the details to the service writters this morning who I am waiting for to call me back with more info. I will keep you updated.

SOunds good, well i doubt it would fix my problem, but it is still kind of related so i would still like it to be updated/fixed. What should i do to get this done? Call the dealership and ask for the service rep and tell him i saw the recall information and....? Thanks for your help.

Call your dealer and talk to the service dept. tell them that you have a TSB (Technical Service Bullentin) that you feel will solve a problem that you are having, give them the number and make an appoitment.

Let us know how everything goes. Is it like a recall? Is it going to be free? Sorry for all the questions LOL.

Well it turns out that the TSB only effects manual NT cars, so I was out on that one. They re-checked everything and the tech. said that it looks like the TPS might be bad, which is weird because as I showed them it is brand new from Mit. and was installed about a month ago. So under warrenty they have ordered me a new sensor and are going to install it free of charge next week as it is a part warrenty issue. I guess we will see what happens after that.

That is BS. I know there is a TSB for it. I am going through my stuff and I'll find it tonight for you.

Not sure what to say guys, I saw the print out of the TSB # above and it said for NT Manual cars....but if you could find one, please post it.

Here's the TSB number, I am having trouble getting my scanner to put the file out in a reasonable size but I'll keep trying. TSB-98-13-013REV is the one and if they can't find that then get your car out of there 'cause they are clueless!! It does however state it applies only to 1999 model year cars built before 8/15/98. Check the sticker in your door jamb and it should at least have the month and year the car was built.

Well they are replacing my TPS any way, because it is under their warrenty, so I get another new one...yeah...and also I had a REAL dealer, Metro Mits. fax them a copy of the above TSB #, so I hope this will end....please still email me a copy though if you can.

Where do i find out what date my car was built? I dont see anything in the door jamb.
Also with this TSB it says on that paper you just posted that the dealer is supposed to reprogram the ecu then check tps voltage and if it isnt in spec than fix it. Well will they fix it for free or not? I doubt it but hey you never know.
