My custom Carbon Fiber Avenger

The dash board is actually pre-made by the same company I origionally bought the "pre bent" (trust me needed a lot of work and extra tubing) roll cage from. The company is called S&W racecar, they make a lot of funny car/dragster suspension and body panels for. The dash appearance wise looks very similar to an OE dash assembly however just like anything else, I need to do a LOT of trim work, and a lot of extra add on fiberglass work.

Then of course to fit around the roll cage I ended up making it a 3 piece part, and relacted my fuse box under it, so I can leave the 2 end cap pieces in the car at all times, and just remove the center section, all my guages are wired with independant harness's uses computer connectors so they are all PNP, as is my entire MS harness and power/ground harness, all using PNP computer connectors for easy removal and separation between engine bay and chassis.

I beleive the dash was fairly cheap around 225 plus shipping came to roughly 310-315 ish, it comes in black gel coat, I ultimately sanded, primered, painted, and mat cleared it to match the paint of the car/interior.

In reguards to the CF matching/fitment...

Fitment of the CF is flawless, body lines match perfectly; door to fender, door to quarter panel gaps are better then factory, doors open and close smoother then factory, fenders to hood the gap is exactly the same from front to back. The only mis-match in body gaps is in the rear bumper to tail light area, I have done all I can to make it perfect but their is a 1/8" difference in gap from the left to right tail light, which their is no way you can notice that in the pictures.

As for weave orientation. You are correct, Front bumper to hood to left fender match. Right fender holds the exact same weave pattern as the left fender I talked to carbon creations about it, and EVERY fender they made in CF holds that same pattern so their was nothing I could do about it. As for the doors, right fender, matches right door, left fender is opposite of left door. Cowl matches hood; Trunk matches, insert, which matches rear bumper, which matches gas door.

Its really not as aweful as you portray, but you are correct that the weaves are not exactly perfect.

I spent well over 75 hours sanding, smoothing, matching, setting gaps, shimming, clearing, sanding again, clearing again, ect. If you have ever worked with Carbon Fiber before you would understand and respect the amout of work it takes to make it right. However weave orientation is out of my hands when the maker/vendor tells me "too bad you get what you get"...

Dude, I'm not a huge fan of avengers, or lots of CF, but the car looks sweet. I can only imagine the time it took to HAND BUILD 90% of the entire body. I always find it hilarious when people who have never ever gotten there hands dirty with professional level bodywork, try to nitpick someone else's work. The shits not easy, and if you've never been a professional body man, don't criticize someone else's work.

Also,

Anyone planning on por15, I have some tips.

1. FOLLOW THE ####ING DIRECTIONS!
2. Por15 is UV resistant, do not use it on things that will be in sunlight. If you do, top coat it with something
3. POR15 will not stick to a fresh ground or sanded surface. It must be sand blasted, or treated with POR15's metal prep, or over seasoned metal (rusty)
4. Make sure all surfaces are dry, flakey rust can contain moisture, and POR15 will not work if you paint over moist rust.
5. Don't paint out of the can

awesome work man a lot of time invested on this thing I like it just for the fact that I dont think there is another one like your car I know about fiberglass and CF and is a whole lot of work very nice work

Thanks guys, but to clarify I did not hand lay the carbon pieces, the work was done using the OE or aftermarket production parts, modified, and sent out to a company known as Carbon Creations to be made, some of which are still avail. for public purchase, some of which only a handful 5 or 10 were made and sold. In return for making the origionals to be used as molds they either gave me a free Carbon version or sold me one at a really low price usually 100$-150$. However just like fiberglass you never know the fitment you are to get and the modifications needed for the product to fit right.

Sasauss : "Do I know you" - haha I beleive you do! Whats going on fellow ASEC member!

sup BC?! what you doin' on here? small internet haha.

i gotta say i just pretty much hate 80% of the comments on here, and at the same time am happy about them.

people don't like it-- this is arguably the best dodge avenger EVER-- even among avenger owners we agree on this. if they don't like this car, they probably will never like an avenger no matter what you do to it. which is sad.

people who do like it are like "i never thought i'd like an avenger" which makes me happy they now like 1 avenger, but sad that it took this extreme of modification to get there approval.

I would say this for any car, Avenger or not, but it looks ugly. Not because of the body kit style, or the fact that it has so much CF. No, because it looks like a half-assed job when matched against any paint but black, paint the rest black and it will go from blah to effing hot real quick.

How much por 15 will I need to do the bottom of my 2g

Maybe it is the CF that makes it look like they are not lining up correctly. But I did notice that the door handles don't fit very good at all. I'm with Spawned on the fact that you should paint it all one color.

As beautiful as ever Matt. Glad I got to help out on this build.

I enjoy reading about it any chance I get.

Well my hatred for the avenger comes from experience. My sister had one and it cost so much in repairs, leaking oil from several different places. I do however like the look of the car. :thumb:
