ok well here it is? My car is a 95 gst eclispe i have a six bolt swap done to it. Its a complete 1g motor basically. but anyways one night i was out and i was running my car a lil hard and all of a sudden my car is idling funny.after doing a compression test my number 2 cylinder has no compression. it runs but has no power. all of my spark plugs have a great spark so its noting like spark orfuel. i can unplug my injector to that cylinder and it makesno difference. you can smell a hint of gasolinse out of the exhaust im worried i have something wrong with the piston.I hope som1 can please help me and pinpoint the problem so i can get it fixed. tanks alot for any help.

Is it making any funny noises? Theres two worst case scenarios I can think of for this, melted a hole in your piston and its as good as dead, check your oil and see if it smells like gas. Or you bent a valve or two in that cylinder, but i dont know how you would go about doing that without jumping timing or having a valve break off into your cylinder. Take out the plug for that cylinder and take a peek in with a flashlight, let us know what you see.

hey ok well theres no funny noise at all. its like a regular car i guess you could say like a turbocharged geo metro or something. LOL. but anyways i actuall drove teh car 500 miles on the 3 cylinders. it was an emrgency to drive it and it dng sure made it. but ok if theres a hole in the cylinder what do i do?i really dont wnt to have to go through finding another block and all tha crap.is there anyway possible to just replace that one cylinder. i mean the rebuild has maybe 5000 miles on it. everything if fairly fresh you know? so wht doi do and yesill shine a flaslight in the oleand let you know. my compression numbers were 156-0-158-156 its kiling me! please help! whats the fastest and easiest way to go about this?

If the rocker arms popped off he would have way high compression, the pressure wouldnt be able to escape. No matter what happened i can pretty much guarantee something on that cylinder is going to be a total loss, be it a piston, or a valve or valves. If you killed a piston you can get the cylinders re-honed and new rings put on your 3 good pistons and get a new piston and rings for the dead cylinder and should be good to go as long as there is no further damage. But after driving 500 miles i can guarantee something is horribly horribly wrong now.

Check your timing marks, with 0 compression you probably skipped a couple teeth and bent some valves.

ok so i paray nothing is horribly wrong. Ok i havent triend the leak down test yet i have a question though if my rings are that bad is it possible to have 0 compression? i ddont know what to do? how hard adn expensive would it be to get my pistons rehowned and rings and how expensive would it be? please if anyone has the same problem or went thorough this what do i do where do i take it i dont want to rio this engine out again. but if its the valves would iot be easy to locate teh bent valve? thanks for everyones help.

ok today was crazy..........alright i decided to take things in my handds so 1st i removed teh valave cover and teh spark plugs. well i turn it over to make sure the valves are opening and closing and they look great. i ook down into the number 2 piston adn it looks ok well it is a little scarred but nothing bad theres no hole in it. i took a flat head and kinda of rubbed the top of the piston theres no like grroves to where it ya know get hung up on but all in all flat. well i noticed when i turn it over a litle oil builds up on it. well anyways teh spark plug on teh number two cylinder is toast i clean ok it had no gap in the plug. well i gapped it wiped it off put it all bak together and notice a significant difference its no t where it was but i mean wow what a difference what the heck happened? why did it all of a sudden run so much better?>

If your plugs are not gapped correctly and it wasn't igniting the fuel i'd say you gas washed the rings. I would install new plugs ( cleaning them after getting gas soak just doesn't cut it) drive it a little bit and check the compression agian. Your probally going to need new rings.

ok i did a compression test and today it was 155-70-156-150. my compression sucks. what the heck is the problem so is it the rings.

Def, sounds like the rings. Put a couple drops on oil in that low cylinder and do the compression check agian, it should come up some. If you have access to a leak down test that would be best but i;m pretty shure you gas washed the rings in that cylinder. I would pull the head, down pipe, oil pan and hone and replace the rings and bearing on just that one cylinder. I have done it that way a few times for people, you and a few handy friend should be able to do it in a day. Good luck.

Steve

If he is going to go through the hassle of honing, do it on all cylinders and get new rings, thats a retarded idea to do it in one cylinder. his compression would be like 155-180-156-150. Take it apart and rehone ALL cylinders and put new rings on all the pistons and call it a day.

did you miss my post or something? to find out if your rings are worn do your compression test AGAIN so you have a current baseline. then put about a teaspoon of oil down the spark plug well on the low compression cylinder. then test the compression again. then compare your results with your baseline and see if your compression has raised from what your baseline was. if you get a higher compression reading then you have bad/worn piston rings. good lucc.

i didn't miss your post i did redo the compression test after oil was in it. see the first time i checked it it was 0 and now it was up to 70 but i really need to replace that piston ringand everthing else. so could somone explain to me how exactly i do this that would be greatly appreciated. thanks alot for everyones help. explain to me what honing is and how exactly i get the piston ring out and all that good stuff. thanks!
