My back seat Nitrous tank build

Well I traded my old E16g to a local for a brand new ZEX nitrous setup and had some time to figure out were I was going to put the tanks. I did'nt really want to put them all the way in the back because I would have to buy remote bottle openers to use them if I need them while driving. So I decided to put them were the back seat is located since no one ever rides in my car anyway. I first started off by making a frame from 1" aluminum square tubing. After that I lated 1/4" foam board on top which will be covered with Fiberglass and is very strong. I then layed out and cut two tank frames from 3/4" MDF. Next was filling the gap with expandable foam and sanding a conture to match. I then checked the fit in the back again before moving to the tank plug. This is will be used to make a place for the tanks to sit in. The MDF frame and take plug will be covered in Carbon fiber and the frame will covered in tan suede to match the interior. I will be making a latch system to work with the old seat catch in the floor for easy removal if I want. My goal is a light and sturdy frame that looks good. I will be posting more as I work on it when I can.

thanks for the replys. This weekend I made up latch catches for the frame. I then moved onto making a FG tray for were the area of the front of the frame meets the carpet. I origally was just going to just have it come down and meet the floor. I thought it would look better if I blend it into the floor, so more expandable foam. I first covered the area in painters tape and then aluminum foil and then two layers of FG cloth. I made a mistake here and tried to use a heavy oz. FG and it was a PITA. Anyway cleaned it up alittle and cut the holes for the catches and layed up the area to bridge the gap between the floor and the frame. It looks like shit now but it will turn out good.More to come!

This is in the 2007 NHRA rules. I don't know for sure how this applies at various tracks, but if you're planning on putting one in, that would probably be the safe way to go.

1.6 NITROUS OXIDE
Commercially available nitrous oxide system prohibited on supercharged V-8 engine, permitted on all other engines. Nitrous bottles in driver compartment must be equipped with a relief valve and vented outside of driver's compartment. Bottles must be stamped with a DOT -1800 pound (124 bar) rating and permanently mounted (no hose clamps or tie wraps). Hoses from bottle(s) to solenoid must be high pressure steel braided or FIA permitted hoses. External heating of bottle(s) prohibited.

Car looks good nice skills.You should do the blow-down setup anyway regardless of NHRA rules. If something were to fail or happen your car would quickly fill up with nitrous oxide which can cause asphyxiation. Just something to think about.

Well I have'nt made as much progress as I would have liked over the past couple of days. Have'nt been feeling well and work is kicking my butt. But anyway I built another frame for the back

Well after some setbacks and way to much work I got some things done on this project. I didn't like the way there was a big gap between the frame and the sides so I layed down more FG and foam and filled it in and then covered the frame in FG.

I then made this little frame for the FPC and overlayed it with some CF

I then layed everthing out and noticed that things are going to be tight and that the location of my AMP is forcing me to locate the sub off center so I came up with this frame.

Not too sure if i'm really digging it. So today I covered it in foam and will sand it down tomarrow and see how it looks.

I finished up sanding the sub box today and placed it in the back just to see how it would look before FGing it. Now I'm debating between covering it in CF or suede since the frames for the NO2 tanks, the FPC box and the amp frame are CF will it be to much CF? But then again can you ever have to much CF?

The vinyl CF found at AutoZone looks real, but isn't real and doesn't mold to anything but flat surfaces.... I've used it on a few things but only things with flat surfaces look right. So yeah
